My 02 forte has a bad whoop whoop noise coming from the front left hand side. I had the car up on jacks today and spun the wheel and the noise is definately not brakes, as new pads were put in 3 months ago and still look good. All I can come up with is wheel bearings?????? The car has only 116k on the clock. What are everyone elses experiences with the wheel bearings????

Wheel bearings last anywhere between 80,000km and 200,000km, so at 116000km, yes it could be them.

if your driving your car in straight line you would hear the roaring noise,i think if you drive stright and turn steering wheel to the left sharp the noise should quitin a bit.......it be left bearing.
Having issuies with my left bearing, been fixed and has gone again in 2 months:-s |

One way to test ... jack the front wheels of the ground ... grab the wheel at the top and bottom and shake it ... if there is play in and out on that wheel ... it's definitely a wheel bearing.
I have heard front wheel bearings go at 35,000km ... Mine all of a sudden got bad and I replace mine at 260,000km.

Thanks everyone. Took it to a mare who is a mechanic today and he said definately the wheel bearings have gone in the front left. My next question is should I do both fronts or just the damaged ones????? I tend to think go with the balanced approuch and do both sides. What does everyone else think???? Repco quoted $118 for each hub/bearing assembly, and there are ebay ones at $65 each. Should they be ok???

I'd do both absolutely.
The $65 ones are generic brands on ebay.. I just brought a set of generics for my front for about the same price so I dare say they are the same thing. Ebay have Genuine for about 80ish each I think if you feel more comfortable but I doubt there will be quality difference. |

I just did mine.. needed a puller to get hub assemble offf stub axle and a 35mm Socket.. was literally a piece of and i followed the how to tech guide on here... my only thoughts are make sure u clean the stub axle as one of my new hub assemblies slide on perfect other was was a touch difficult.
I bought the ebay $65 each ones.. from carsrus or whoever they are... doing it again i would go spend th extra few bucks and get ford ones... really peice of mind i suppose and im not the sort of person that things genuine is always better but in this case i should have. btw cars got 203,000km I also did a service and put new front discs\pads and rear discs\pads and adjusted handbrake..
