Default Ford extended warranty (to be or not to be!)

I have a LS LX 2005 for 2 months. The car will be out of warranty next month and I'm thinking of buying an extended warranty.

Ford has an extended warranty (it is same as new car warranty), with the following prices:
12 months $1’125 / 160’000kms
24 months $1’265 / 160’000kms
36 months $1’495 / 160’000kms

Because it's a lot of money (at least to me) so I wanted to be sure that it is worth it.
So my choices are,
1- Keeping the money for paying the cost of any possible future problems.
2- Buying an extended warranty ( I have the 3 years in my mind)

Thanks in advance for your help.

I reckon it's a matter of personal choice.
For me, I'd be doing what could to trade up and put the dead extended waranty $$$ into a later model.

Likewise, I'd do the same. The other thing, is that you can bargain the warranty down. I was offered the paint/interior/underbody protection for $1800 and the warranty for 1400, by the time I'd finished bargaining with them they'd do both for 2k flat, but I didn't take it in the end, still more money than it's worth. Remember that you're basically just buying an insurance policy. if you're going to get it, check it carefully, and go for the 3 year.

Perhaps worth putting some of that money into a full vehicle inspection before the current warranty expires, and get anything that needs attending to fixed

Thanks for your all tips.
Using a portion of that money to get a full car inspection is a good idea.
Do you think that I should use ford for that matter or some one else? (I had a good experience with denmac ford, indoorpilly in minor repairs)

Cheers

I rang my dealer today to ask about the extended Warranty. First thing they said is that ford have just dropped the extended warranty and will no longer offer it. I found this a little strange. I wonder if any of the ford dealers on this site could confirm whether this is correct.

That sounds odd...I picked mine up 2 weeks ago, and they said i could call anytime and get it, as long as the factory warranty was still in effect. As far as an inspection goes, get RAC to do it, bit more unbiased. Won't pick the major things, but oil leaks and crap like that they will. A friend's got an 05 Zetec, and that just started randomly refusing to turn over, turned out to be a loose pin in the ECU. Things like that suck...

I agree with the RAC inspection (or equivalent in your state). You wouldn't get ford to carry out an inspection that may also hold them liable for any repairs. Somehow I dont think they'd find too much wrong with the vehicle.

I might contact the dealer I bought the car from. I thought it sounded odd, but thats what they said. Anyhow, I was more curious than anything, but I would be interested in taking out 3 additional years.

It's been discussed in this thread:

No More Ford Extended Warranties??

Existing extended warranty agreements will be honoured, but they are not writing any new ones at the moment.

I was advised that they are in the process of negotiating a new agreement with either the existing insurer or a new insurer, and to follow this up when I get near the end of my standard warranty.

But yeah, if i had 90,000km on it like the OP I would be cranky. I hope they sort it out soon.

The genuine Ford Extended Warranty was pretty good value. I hope the new one doesn't become substantially more expensive.
That was a few weeks ago. It's interesting that they haven't sorted it yet. This needs to be followed up.

Problem solved as ford doesn't offer that extended warranty anymore.
Another reason is to forget this is I found a new way to spend money!
Some jerk smashed the window for Stealing a GPS (has been kept in dashboard)
Ok, time to make a new thread in this regard.
Very sad day:-(

Thanks any way
