I am about to purchase a 1996 series 2 EF, and was wanting to know if anyone can point out some things I may need to look for?
Anything will be of help? Thanks

Mainly just the usual stuff you would look at as with any car but pay particular attention to signs of blown headgasket, coolant/water seeping down the block etc

Might pay to check out
http://www.deleted link/portal/kb.php?mode=article&k=13

or do a search this has been covered many times.

Shifting should be smooth (presuming she's auto),
make sure the coolant in the resevoir is green and clean...anything other id query,
the temp gauge should stay around the 1/4 mark, and the 1/3 to 1/2 mark after considerable driving...higher and you might have radiator issues or worse like FRDXR said.
check that it stops as well as it goes (brakes), nothing wrong it giving it a decent test.
and aim for as low as possible with the Km/s on the odometer...

Cant think of anything else at the moment :P

thanks again, picked it up last night,
got green in the coolant, stops as good as she goes, and the temp gauge stays around the 1/4 mark, last night was cold.
everything else works.
lowish ks, 1 96 model with 161ks on the clock.
checked for coolant leaks, and none what so every, not even any oil leaks that i could see.
thanks for the help.

Sorry to answer someone elses question... _

I bought mine only recently when I moved up here to Brissy.

I paid $4500 and it's done 180,000kms. Everything's tip top, just needed a transmission tune-up and I still have to re-tint the windows. Oh... and lots of mods It had full books and regular service receips.

As soon as I bought it I bled the brakes, changed the oil and coolant, checked all the filters, hoses, and belts etc etc... (the basic at home on Saturday service :P). I should've put new tyres on it though because I recently did the diff in whenI lost it around a corner :(

Anyways, I paid the $4500 on a private sale, all the yards are an absolute rip around here when it comes to e-series!! (I then spent copious ammounts of hard earnt cash on the sound system :dj: .)

How much did you guys spend on your EFs?

Mines a pretty stock EF series 2.
Paid 4990 for it,a nd its done 161ks,
had everything checked and all looks good.

MOds: to come:

Low profile tyres new set of mags, replace the exhaust with a custom 2 1/2 inch.
put in a new chip from powerchip and perhaps replace the current air filter with a pod filter.
not sure on that one yet.

Ive been trying to put some pics on, but cant seemt o work it, it says my pics and too large for them to be added.
whats the eaiset way to placfe them on.
