From what i have heard you say it sounds like it is the converter. And they do, do it. I have seen it before.

The auto cant cause your problem and neither can anything else other than no power to make it stall or stuck stator clutch.

I throw this out there, but highly doubt it, if you are driving with traction control on, then it could be possible that something is wrong and it could be causing engine cut and reducing power to compensate. But if this was the case then turn it off and prob would be gone.
Another question is once you up and up in the rev's and moving how does the power feel? Does it feel like it has lost it all round or just down low on take off.

At 100kph when the lock up clutch kicks in what are your before and after rev's?

Basically either its stuffed or something is up and your motor is just not producing any power at all in the low rev's in order to get it to stall, and for it to be that bad, it would have to be down like 80%+.

once it gets to about 2000rpm it just takes off and feels great just off the line (im guessing thats because the cams power range is 2200-6500rpm).
the lock up makes the revs go from about 2500ish to 2100rpm at 100kph thats because i have 3.9's.
i will pull it out and get the stally repaired as i am selling it all and going manual as i am a big lover of manuals.
cheers josh.

Here's a 2800rpm stall to suit an AU V8, they'll do it for $395 or deduct $95 if you do it change over.

i have this issue with mine at the moment. as far as i know its only running the standard converter though. when just driving normal it is fine but if i bomb it off the line it no longer spins the wheels or launches hard. halfway through 1st then it starts to spin, but on initial launch it saounds almost like a slipping clutch in a manual. makes a lot of noise but doesn't really go anywhere. i also have 3.9gears. is there any sort of test i can do to determine if the torque converter needs attention?

sorry to hijack thread.

i wasn't meaning the converter was making the noise. just the v8. put your foot down and it doesn't really launch away. after you are moving is when it starts to build and then when you get 20-30km/h on board it really starts to take off and then it will spin up.

given my tyres are nearly slicks it used to just light up if i tapped the throttle. i'm just assuming its the converter causing the lag.
