Just an intersting website with ss commodore times.

http://www.commodores-r-us.com/SSComm/vyss.html

vy ss commies 0-100 in 5.9 seconds. That is .6 quicker than my best not much really. So I think that you can start to understand that they are not a beast which cannot be beaten at these speeds.
Also I have heard that their power levels die with a little heat after being driven for a bit so they are passable.

.6 of a second to 100 is alot... think about going from 0-100 in 5.5 seconds, then going 0-100 in 4.9 seconds... thats a huge difference.
but this argument is crap, run against some LS1's on a drag strip and you'll see.

yeah - .6 of a second is massive difference in 0-100 times

my best run against a gen 3 was at the drags - got convincingly beated by half a second and 13mph even though he stuffed up the launch bigtime.

I was ok till we both pulled 3rd gear - then it was all over... http://users.on.net/~jasiunas/stockstandard/stockstandard-gen3.wmv

maybe I should try lion-hunting in NSW

In my experience the best I've ever run against an SS (ute) was taking him in first and most of 2nd. Once mid/high second gear came, the SS was gaining fast and in front not long after. You might get the jump on one but once they get going...bye bye.

Are you doing under 100kmph when he overtakes you? Also if you like you can borrow my gtech and check your times.
I am experimenting with it for 1 more week and then take it for a bit.

Depending on diff ratio - 100kph is about top speed in 2nd for a 5 speed.

lol - if you've raced him to 100 then you have already broken the low (they will do you for dangerous or reckless driving)

All Im saying is that its a big claim, and I think until you can back it up with some track time most people will be calling BS.

anyway - how bout that crash today....

Yes on a freeway.

If your racing other cars you can get done. It doesnt matter if you brake the speed limit or not. Hell you can even get booked for reckless driving for driving at the speed limit in bad weather. Same idea behind banning mobile phone usage. Isnt it fair to assume that if your racing your paying less attention to the safety of yourself and others on the road?

Legality aside, say your at a red light, about to race, it turns green, you both jump on the throttle and neither see the car running the red because your to busy trying beat the guy next to you. The thought that you had the green to go isnt much comfort when your car is a wreck.

I am extremely cautious after being smashed by 2 semis 1/1/2 years ago...I never ever ever go fast in the rain.I drive like an old man. Safety first mate at all times. I still feel sick from it.

If there is a potential spurt I simply dont run around racing all day...I have an obligation to myself and others for safety above all activities.

I make a risk assessment before doing anything like this.
Make it clear mate...idiots which race out of control should be fined and lose their licence.
My tests are conducted on a farm in Windsor. My street spurt will never go above the speed limit or into a manner of driving which any normal person may do . Is it illegal to get away from red lights quickly??No !!

If you do not spin wheels and drive all over the place you will be booked.
If there is rain my car never sees more than 1/3 throttle.

An SS with a competant driver will take you, always.
If you have beaten one, he was either half asleep, or simply not up to the task of launching it properly.

My old XH won't beat a SS from the lights but it will hold on to it, no problem.
It would eat your wagon alive, in every way.

You have a relativley quick wagon mate, but you need to be realistic, it isn't an SS beater, no matter what you think, and I doubt you're going to convince anyone here of it.
At the end of the day, it's still a mid(ish) 15 second car, and that ain't enough to take a SS.

Rick.

Youll probably find that it was done with a stopwatch and a passenger like many of their other 0-100's seem to be.

look I love them but 4 litre six cylinder automatic wagons are not the street racers best bet for 0-60 or 0-100ktraffic light drags are they!

I am pretty confident mine will pull a genuine 7.5 seconds to 100kmh any day just drive off no launch or shift kit or anything.

I reckon this puts me a full second behind a similarly driven GENIII sedan beacuse its lighter has an engine a full 40% bigger with at least 180rwkw stock.

And a second is a long way ahead at 100kmh!

Still if they don't realise your trying till you get a car length ahead then sure they have to work very hard to catch up and pass you by a 100kmh but they can. I have had more serious problems with V6 supercharged commodores then genIII's as the V8's don't waste their time they have nothing to prove!
