Default How much will your new car depreciate ?

A little web site from Glass's Dealer Guide that gives you a VERY rough guide on what your NEW car may be worth in the next few years.

Taking into consideration your lease term and the amount of kilometres, it spits out a price between "blah and blah".

Just a novelty imo, because who knows where the economy will be in a few years time, and how resale values will hold up.

Good for a laugh for some, but may be depressing for others. lol

Im currently looking at buying a 2007 BF MKII Fairmont ghia. The average price is around $30,000 so they have lost about $16,000 in just on 2 years.

Some people probably don't want to know that there $60k will be worth mid-20's in 4 years.

I was going to buy a second hand territory, went down to the dealership and a new one was the same price as a 2 year old with the same options. :

I did a search for a G6ET and it said it will be worth 20k in three years, I think it's cult status will ensure that is not the case.

That's for a W427. But to me, that's not the funniest thing. I find the funniest thing the idea of the ones that went straight into storage that were anticipated to instantly start appreciating (just like the GTS 300 did).

Imagine getting your car repossessed in a few years, and having lost $100k+ on a car you never actually got to drive

50% depreciation hit after 4 years is normally the case, but in this day and age - 50% after three is the new norm.

It is pretty funny our desire to burn cash like we do as car enthusiasts...........

Cult status? Maybe on here, but to everyone else it's probably in the same category as an Aurion Presara/Vienta Grande/V8 Calais.

Lucky my residual is much lower than what my ute will actually be worth (hopefully for the sake of my boss!)....So what this website is saying is that its not worth buying new cars!

Most lease cars are 45% residual after 3 years. Seemed ridiculous at the time, but it's looking pretty accurate now that mine is coming up towards 3yo! I'd love an FG Falc or SY Territory, so at least I should be able to get into something nice for about $25k next time...

As soon and you pull out onto the road from a dealer, about $6000 goes from the value.

From what I have seen, falcon's atm are worth about half what they were new after 2 years, thats a big hit in the wallet..

I have seen them sell for low $20,000 at Pickles Auctions on several occasions.

I watch the online auctions at home from all over Australia.

You are the first person on this forum to pair a G6ET with a Aurion..............

What I mean is that there will always be a second hand market for the car because wants a turbo luxury car but nobody wants to cop the initial resale hit.

That's got to suck after forking out $155k! :

Well the Aurion Presara is the direct competitor to the G6E series from Toyota.

Arguably the TRD Aurion was the G6ET competitor before it was taken out back and shot.

Because you can't buy it new anymore.

I compared the 350Z to a F6. $10k difference for the same initial cost.

Interestingly the F6 figure was about the same as I got for my F6 when I sold it last year after the same years/kms.

But then you shouldn't buy new cars to resell, you buy them to drive......

Something wrong with some of the assumptions or algorithms used in that calculator.

Playing around with figures on a few exotics and I got the following:

2009 MASERATI QUATTROPORTE S
CURRENT RECOMMENDED RETAIL PRICE
$323,800 (inc GST)
LEASE TERM (MONTHS) 36
EXPECTED KM AT LEASE END 60000 Km
RV FORECAST AS AT Mar 2009
LEASE END Mar 2012
FORECAST RV RANGE (Expected Trade In/Private Sale Price) $-17,500 to $8,400 (inc GST)

Looking forward to someone paying me to take their 3 year old Maserati off their hands. :

It claims a 5 year old XT Forester is worth 12-16K, good luck finding one for that, more like 22-26K LOL!

Even then if you do the math. The 40th will be no different to any other car.

My TS50 $70K new, worth $20K now. A lot for an AU but a lot less than it was. Allegedly worth something in the future, throw in 20 years of reg and insurance. I will have paid again what it's worth by then.

I still don't care it's my baby, but it's not an investment that is for sure.
