Indeed. Very good suggestion.

IIRC, a few V8 owners have had an issue with the sender/switch cracking. It may have done so with the extra heat.

Well worth a check.

Of course lol. ford wouldn't make it easy to access lol. That would mean less labour = less money for them to fix

I think I read in your build thread you only replaced yours recently... Any suggestions for how to get to it a bit easier next time? Maybe disconnect oil cooler lines or something?

Remove the drivebelt and have small hands.

No it isn't, not even with the required small hands.

The OEM one is bigger than the replacement ones and you can't get any decent movement in there.

Ok so its ALIVE!!!! - finshed re-assembling it about 9.00 last night.

Placed a bit of board under the car so I could accurately see how much oil it lost.

It started and run perfectly, under revs there was no obvious sign of it pushing oil out so was happy with that. Used no water and no signs of mixing after running for about an hour.

As for the oil leak, the board today after 15 hours or so of sitting there, only has approximately a patch the size of a 50cent coin. So the leak is by no means severe.

I'm going to take it for a drive up a Mountain here that is steeper than Mt panorama. Load test it, 3rd gear at about 40kph will certainly do that. If it doesnt show any signs of using water / oil - or mixing the two then, I may be able say that I have gotten away with this :-)

Now to go degrease the area...

Hahaha so I found my leak... The oil filter was loose lol. Tightened it up a whole turn and a half. I suspect that tommorow there will be no more leak :-) Hows about that for easy

Glad it seems to be running OK.

If you havent already done it (since it overheated), then change the engine oil for some fresh oil before you take it for any sort of serious drive.

Oops, bit late lol. Already tested it as such....

Car went well, performed fine. I warmed it up on the way, then started labouring the car progressively up the mountain. Got to the top, checked all the fluids, and then drove back down, (compression braking) most of the way.

End result;

No apparent problems with the engine, no signs of mixing fluids, and no leaks.

So I think I may have got away with it.

Only thing it has cost me is, A bloody fuse, a few gaskets and coolant.

And while I was at all this, I had a chance to clean up the runners on my upper and especially lower manifold. No #2 and #5 seemed preety average.

So all in all, I suppose I should thank my lucky stars. And just wait and see if any problems arise in the future.

I should add that I warmed the car up thoroughly before doing this, Never took it over 4000rpm and only loaded/laboured the enigne incrementally. Also had a 'chase' vehicle to monitor any fluid loss or smoke etc.

Good result - I well and truly cooked my old Windsor about 15 months or so ago, but that was due to the mechanic leaving the radiator cap off, so they paid for maching heads etc. At least yours has only cost a few bob and a few weeks in time.

Now.....anyone know how to remove an allen key bolt if the allen key snapped off and is stuck in the bolt? I'm thinking multi grips! And why aren't hardware stores open when you need them (like now?).
