Default The EF's home. let the games begin...

the EF got home today from its eventful trip to Vic a few weeks back.
for those that dont know, the trans self destructed while we were over there picking up john & john's eb wreck

so now i have to figure out where to go from here...
i've got several options...
A: get the trans in the looked at and repaired. (potentially very expensive)

B: get the trans that came with the wreck (thanks john, john, and karl) serviced and swap that for the one thats in the car, and get the dead one checked out later.

C: burn everything and get the insurance money.....

opt. B is obviously the better way to go. (my wife wont let me burn it).

I was planning to pull the motor out again at some stage to change the shortblock over (currently has ef bottom end, au top end), so it looks like im in for pulling out the entire driveline. (the diff needs replacing aswell).

i'll keep you all posted on the progress.

now where are my matches....

glad to hear its back and still in one piece (well.... many pieces in the trans but you know what i mean.)

ive heard lots of horror stories of scratches and dents mysteriously making there way onto cars being transported...

make sure you take pics when everythings ripped out.... i love carnage shotsP

I vote option B, then put the V8 into my parents EA wagon ;)

lol @ option C. yeah id go option B ;) use the manual in your EB if you put the 5.0L in that. keep the EF Auto its a nice cruiser!

Converting to a manual would cost Phil BIG$$$$$. Not because the manual conversion is so expensive - but the rear tyres would NEVER stay on the car. The poor "clutch" would become a "slip" and the flywheel would need to be replaced with an aftermarket explosion proof one. Got one mate with 3 toes on his left foot for exactly that reason...

Default update...

pulled the old BTR out, that was easy as. cleaned up the BTR that came with the wreck. i bought new front and rear main seals for it, thought i may as well do it while its out....
pulled the torque convertor out to do the seal and eagle-eyed dan noticed some damage on the convertor.... bugger.
i've sourced another convertor (thanks aaron), hopefully here in the next couple of days.

so i was thinking, as the trans is out, and i've got a five-day weekend starting on friday, i may as well pull the motor out and fit the AU bottom end. so thats my job for weekend lol....
bought all the gaskets etc today, *should* be fairly straight forward...

i'll take pics for those interested

head gaskets - $35 for the pair
inlet lower gasket set - $45
extractor gaskets - $25 pair
cork rocker gaskets - $29 each

got the engine out today, and removed heads/manifold etc.
cleaned up new shortblock and bolted on one of the heads.
tomorrow i'll finish assembling the motor and get it ready to go in.

bit more progress today.
cleaned up the heads and manifold, bolted those on, fitted the distributor and waterpump etc, basically got the whole motor together, ready to bolt back in to the car.
i also fitted the new seals on the new trans, and swapped the shifter linkage and speedo drive from the original trans.
the trans is now sitting in position under the car eady for the motor to be dropped in and bolted up.
now i just have to wait for Aaron's trans to arrive so i can grab the trque convertor from it and finish the job.....

well, after how many weekends of waiting for parts, fine weather and some motivation to come my way.... its back together....

re-fitted au shortblock, (with gt40p's, explorer etc)
fitted trans from the eb wreck
and fitted the 3.23lsd we also picked up from melb

so a complete change of running gear. drove it for the first time today, had a few issues with it going into limp home mode, but that was low fluid level in the trans (cheers dan), and it had stalling/low idle issues, which was fixed with a bit of stuffing round.
its still in "timing set by ear" mode, so its a little bit sluggish at the moment. will get it properly tuned shortly. and the trans is in desperate need of a flush and service.

the LSD works fine ;)

feels good to be behind the wheel of a V8 again.....
now that this ones done i can finally concentrate on cutting up the EB wreck, then do some more work on my baby (my coupe)
