Default tapets

correct me if im wrong, but do ef/el have automatic tapets? (adujusting). i have a bit of tapet noise and i want to get them adjusted/ spaced correctley but if they have automatic ones how would i go about this??

im dump founded.

yes basicly there what you may call automatic,,but they are hydrolic lash adjusters and if they become noisey it usually means they need a clean or aren't filling up with oil..and sometimes they can make a noise for no real reason but to **** us off..

wouldn't hurt i spose..if you can take them off yourself that would make it cheaper.you could also try a wreckers and see if you can get some good 2nd hand ones,,

Harry, a fairly common complaint with 3.9 and early 4.0 litre motors were Hydraulic lifters. They do have a habit of picking up gunk and getting noisey but one other thing can also be is a BAD type of oil filter or even the OIL itself. Best to run the Recommended oil in your engine and use a GENUINE Oil Filter.

get yaself some new ones there dirt cheap but leave them in oil for 5 mins before puting them in its an easy job

purolator oil filter is the best

i settled for motorcraft because noone in town had purolators and my car started making tappet noise, same type of oil as before all i did was went for the genuine ford/motorcraft filter... bah
