Smile Take Offs

im wondering how you guys do your take offs from lights etc??

i had some fun with a Turbs tonight and my take off was fine until it it about 4000 rpm when the wheels started to spin so i popped it into second and it went saide wayz.

When would you change into second??

i wouldve thought bout redline but its pointless spinning the wheels while trying to play!

I presume the story you tell is from a drag strip or a private road.

The gear change point would vary depending on the transmission ratios, cam and other variables. The best way is to go to the drag strip and compare times with different launch techniques and gear change points.

If the wheels are spinning, shift up, no point losing traction. Use the engines torque.

My EL XR8 is a auto and it seems to get off the line pretty good
I always start in second have been playing around with rear shocks
you can loose alot of traction by having your rear end to stiff

Put it this way, if your wheels are spinning, it means your tires can't put power down to the road. Your tires loose traction up high because that's where the power is. Find where you start to lose traction and back off a little.

Not sure what sort of Falcon you have, but an EA (3.9mpi) makes 338Nm @ 3500rpm and 139kW at 4250rpm. An EF six makes 357Nm @ 3000rpm and 157kW @ 4900rpm.
Correct me if my technique is wrong, but ideally you should take off with the engine at max torque and generally keep the revs between those areas, without too much wheelspin preferably

I would change into second, 1 before you red line it in first,2 before doing any damage to the engine or drivetrain and or being a nuisance to any other road users.
