Default Telling VCT from Non-VCT

Hi,

Have put a deposit on an AU3 6 Cylinder Engine, wondering how I tell if it is VCT or non VCT does it say VCT on the rocker cover if it is a VCT engine?

these are the part numbers from the block, head... and somewhere else; timing cover perhaps?

WR2A-6090-AC
WR2A-6059-AA
WR2A-6015-AB

if that helps at all..

it shouldnt come down to checking numbers, there is a huge mechanism on the front of the head, notched into the rocker cover..You simply cannot miss it :0)

See it sitting right at the front, a HP or standard rocker cover won't fit so it should like the picture have VCT plastered across the rocker cover

Ah cool I wasn't 100% sure I thought by AU3 they might have been standard VCT across the whole range or something

Nope. Probably the least made I6 Falcon engine (well, head really) ever. Its unmistakable, Red, has VCT on it and the VCT mechanism is like the proverbial dogs b....s.

What are you going to put the VCT motor into? Are you getting the ECU and loom too?

Yes , it is possible. The bottom end is all the same across the AU 6's.

So the VCT is better than the HP engine?

Technologically speaking yes it is , but in reality there isn’t a lot between the two performance wise as the VCT motor was paired up with an Independent Rear Suspension system that was 80kgs heavier than the live axle setup that the HP scored so that blunt its performance somewhat. The VCT system was designed to boost low end torque and give afew more KW’s ..... it is apparently abit smoother than the HP so i hear....

Hell Yes. Especially between 3,000 and 4,000 RPM, which was the 'sweet spot' in my AU. It went like the clappers too. The Low Down torque was phenominal, and the high up kilowatts made the T5 option that I took out worth the physio I had on my left leg. What was that you said about yours Casper?
