Question AU1 Fairlane Heater Not Working

Hey,
As it's starting to get colder I have just found out my heater has stopped working.....

It's a bit weird.. the heater will work for a bit (not fully hot) until the car is up to normal operating temperature then it will only blow out cold air at the 32º setting.. Any clues..

Thinking about changing over the thermostat and..

I've a had a look but couldn't work out or locate the heater tap to check if that is working...

Thanks for any help people can provide.

I have also tried resetting the blending motor via the climate controls, but as far as I can tell that is working fine.

Thanks,
Alan.

Heater tap is below the intake manifold, access from underneath the vehicle. My heater isn't working either (as well as the LCD display) so I cable tied the tap open, but still no luck. It seems to be vacuum actuated, and I think for the luxury models there is a type of control box behind the dash where the LCD display feeds it info. Maybe someone can confirm, I need to buy a manual haha.

Default Heater

I have heard that it may be the "belnd door motor". If this is stuffed it wont let the hot air in.

Also, i think the heater tap is actually aat the top of the back on the engine. Whereas on the EF etc, is was way down behind the motor...

Anoywho, i heard that it is a dash out jobbie if you need it fixed.

Good luck with it mate.

Run the diagnostic on the Climate Control Unit - this forces the unit to relearn the blend door paremeters, will also confirm if this is the problem.

Press and hold MODE and OFF simultaneously - if Blend Door Motor is problem you will get error code E2.

More info Here

mine died and i never worked out why.

i did notice it did not make that big THUD noise from the doors in the dash when you selected a heating temp rather than cold etc.

a common fault is the heater tap or the thermostat not letting the hot air through

1 thing i noticed on mine is if i left the fan off for a while it would heat soak in the dash then when you press fan it would push out hot air for a short while then go back to cool air hence it must have been a door fault.

to fix ANY of that stuff its out with the dash for you!

FIXED!

Well after all that it was just thermostat... Wasn't too hard to replace as well.. Go a new thermostat seal and O-ring for heater outlet from the thermostat housing (it was leaking) and it's all good now...

Bloody nice toastie hot heater =)

Thanks for your advice guys,
Alan.

P.S Don't buy your thermostat from Repco! $26. I got mines from Sprints... $7.40

Sprint Auto Parts:
Thermostat: $7.40

Autobarn:
Thermostat: $21.99

Super Cheap Auto:
Thermostat: $22.95

Repco:
Thermostat: $26
