Default Torque converter locks & unlocks

It seems the torque converter in my XR is constantly locking and unlocking (revs jump up by approximately 150 then back down, up then down etc.) particularly using cruise at highway speeds. At first I thought it may have been a cruise issue but after reading around here I'm convinced it's the converter. Auto was serviced 15000kms ago and the symptoms have been the same since purchasing it in November 2009. Other than that the auto is one the smoothest I've driven.

Any other ideas? Is it a big job?

Thanks,

Ian

It does do it with cruise off chugging along at a constant speed however it is no where near as noticeable compared with cruise on.. if that makes any sense. When you say a computer problem to do with the cruise control could the cruise control module be faulty?

if its doing it with and with out cruise its not ur cruise control module, id start by checking if the TB is clean as well as the IAC vavles ports are clean and not damaged

Yep its called the s7 solinoid, if i remember correctly or i could be wrong, its actually in the oil pump it self, so that means gear box will have to come out, if that is found to be the problem or could be the torque converter not working properly

My suggestion is take it to a auto place and get them to hook it up to there computers and get them to have a sticky beak

It shouldnt be a box problem, like I said, it went away the minute I changed converters.

yeh but if it is a change of converters job, the box has to be dropped in order for another one to be put in

Who the hell said anything about not dropping the transmission?
I have an idea for you.
1. Open thread
2. Read thread
3 Google every word in the thread
4. Write a constructive, and TO THE POINT post
5. Double check it
6. Post it.

I didnt say that you said anything about changing gearboxes Mat. READ what I post before going off on stupid tangents. Make yourself clearer in your posts because noone knows what the hell you are on about 9/10th's of the time, its just random unrelated words strung together with poor spelling and sentence structure.
