Default Factory CD player interchangeable?

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to fit a series III or II factory 6 stacker into a series I?
Have done a couple of searches, but cant see an answer.
Currently have a daggy head unit in it and want to put a stacker in instead.
Can get a series III, but will it fit straight in?
Thanx,

I think it will fit straight in but your steering wheel controls will not work

So the steering wheel controls will only work with a series I stacker (in my series I AU)?
Might have to look for the correct unit them.
Thanx,

Pretty sure the Series 2 and 3 units are longer/sit deeper in the dash.

Series II or III will not fit into AU without some hacking; but it can be done if you are determined (and patient).

IF you have a series one cluster in a series 2 the volume goes up to full as soon as you turn it on smoething to do with the steering wheel controls and the speed alert. so I assume you will get the same problem if you put a S2 stacker in a S1
