Default Tale of an XR5 Turbo purchase

Hey all,
I have been looking for a car for the Mrs for a few weeks now. Did all the research & toured car yards endlessly. We started looking at the Fiesta Zetec, but when we were in one car yard, the Mrs spotted an XR5 Turbo. We sat in it & started it - oohh nice, but we didn't really want to spend the extra cash over the price of the Fiesta Zetec as it is a really nice car. Anyway ended up test driving both cars a number of times & the more we drove it, the more we wanted the XR5.
We particularly wanted a white with blue stripes, but these are hard to find around Brisbane. Anyway we went to Bryan Burt at Mt Gravatt to put some money on one. We talked to Justin Golledge - Nice guy! Because we wanted this particular colour, he checked his stock & found that neither they, nor any of their affiliates had one, but a non affiliated company down the road had exactly what I wanted. He told me which dealer it was & sent me on my way with his best wishes.
To cut a long story short, we put a deposit on the XR5 at the second car yard and pick it up Friday .
I really appreciate Justin's honesty in this respect. He could have easily said that there were none in stock & sold me a blue with white stripes, which was my second choice. but he did the right thing & I think that deserves high praise as some of the other salesmen I have talked to have been looser in their interpretation of the truth. It also cost him a commission!
So, if you are in Brissy looking for a new Ford - go see Justin. At least you know he'll be straight with you!
As for the car, I post pics when I pick it up - well maybe not soon after I pick it up, I might be driving it non stop for the next couple of weeks

I too took the same route as GXL Guy with the same fellow Justin (nice fellow) till it came time to talk turkey on price, tried to say my vehicle was a MY07 till I pointed out the error of their ways (in a very niceway) as it was a MY08 model which got their nose out of joint and only increased the trade in by 1K then wouldn’t budge on price. I too headed south to the next dealer and was $3336-00 better off in my pocket at the end of the day. I picked up my Sport’s last Tuesday and loving it. All the best with your new car GXL Guy and congratulations.

Hi Guys,
took the XR5 to Esk on the weekend via Mt Nebo & Mt Glorious -(Dont speed & watch out for a grey GTI Golf, it's the fuzz). Well what a weapon! sticks to the road like ***** to a blanket. I'm still smiling. Anyway, here's some pics of the car - so glad I (we) decided on this & not the fiesta. (not that there's anything wrong with the fiesta).

They are a ball of fun there is no doubt about it.
The off throttle popping and cracking throught the exhaust sounds very "rally" like I thought. Loved every moment of our test drive with the wife some years back and I was laughing all the way through it. Hopped out with a big grin and giggling like a little school girl.
What fun.

Enjoy it mate.

This seems like as good a place as any.

Anyone recognise this XR5? Reason I ask is that it has new WA plates, but is clearly at least several months old (build date Feb 2010, 15,000 km). I don't think it's suspicious, by the way, I'm just guessing the dealer has picked this up cheaper interstate.

Not sure if it's a good buy, since you can get new/demo's for 1-2k more, but it has leather seats and what looks like a decent set of aftermarket alloys (anyone know what brand?).
