Default Logo Projectors - The next big thing ?

" For the new 2013 Mustang, Ford has fitted a tiny projector lamp into the side mirror that casts the shape of the galloping horse logo onto the ground beside the vehicle when the driver unlocks the doors. This illuminated "Easter egg" seems simple enough, but apparently it took Dearborn's engineers quite a while to get it just right, going through six or seven designs before managing to get it to work. "

Cool or Gimmick ?

I thought "wow, cool".
Now I'm thinking "****y"

(Imagine all of the aftermarket chev badge logo projectors on ebay!!!!)

Extreme gimmick, but cool nonetheless.

Oh and one where the legs move when the car is in motion.
Probably illegal.

I'm surprised car makers arn't illuminating their logos on the front and rear of the car when you turn your lights on???

I think the Ford and FPV logos would look good illuminated at night on the front and rear.

That was done yonks ago by the UK marque 'Wolseley'. They had an illuminated logo badge on the radiator.

Quite a few manufacturers used to do that back in the early 1900's. In fact, I think Humber did it up till the mid 60's. Funny how everything old is suddenly new again !!
Don't know about this reincarnation though....
My bad - it was Wolsley.

Illuminated Ford badge? I saw an advert for that very thing in a magazine recently...but do you think I can find the damn thing? It was the standard Ford sized grille badge, but had a nice blue (or red) glow behind it around the edge and behind the letters. Looked pretty good actually, not too bright and showey, just subtle.
