As someone who went to the Cold Chisel concert I can see why they needed to have a police escort. The traffic management plan simply did not exist. It took us over half an hour to get into the parking area before the concert. After the concert it took nearly an hour to get from the parking area out onto the road only to find a traffic jam a few km's down the road. Reason - cops had decided to set up a booze bus on the only road out resulting in a 4km traffic jam. Took us 2 hrs to get from concert to our accomodation some 40km away. Took the edge off an otherwise brilliant concert.

I would have thought cops might stick together and maybe let off at the time .

I'm guessing if they we're escorting the PM or some overseas dignitary this would be a non issue.
