Default Remote Key MB XR5 - battery replacement

Ok, the nice smart car tells me the battery in my remote/proximity key is getting flat.
Almost 2yrs of ownership, so fair enough.
Bought the right batteries (2-pack) today at Dick Smith @ $7.90 less 20% sale discount.

But how do you break into these key fobs without breaking them?
I've pulled the nice Ford logo'd cover plate off, removed the old-style mechanical backup key, but ....?

There must be some wisdom out there.......someone, anyone ?

You need to split the black plastic case, use a butter knife

You're on the right track.
With the cover plate off and backup key out of the way, I used a small flat-head screwdriver and inserted it towards the narrow end of the fob (not the T end of the backup key, but the blade end).
Push in and gently twist - this will separate the fob.
Do it slowly and gently, as it comes into 2 parts, and you risk your PCB falling out.

Changed mine about 6 months ago for the first time and it was a pain to figure out and to get open.

I've tried a couple of times, but got real worried about stuffing it up, so backed off.

Funnily, the nice smart car has not issued the same warning for over a two weeks now. Same key. Go figure?

It's easy mate, you won't break it don't worry.
If your really worried about it just nip down to the dealer and get one of the technicians to do it -I'd be very surprised if they wanted to charge you as it takes 30secs to do
