Finally worked out how to post pictures. Thanks to Casper and AUXRUIII for ideas and offers of help. I should have posted this months ago when the thread was still going. I spray painted the centre console on my Forte as I got sick of the boring grey. Managed to buy a spare console unit on e-bay for $15 so I still have the original.

Just take the radio out, remove the 2 screws hidden by the radio and tyhe 2 hidden by the ashtray and the centre pod/console thing just pulls out. You then have to disconnect allthe switches, fan control etc to actually remove it. the hardest part is getting the radio out, followed by the heater controls (I think it has 6 screws, 2 of which are very hard to get to).

ahhhhh ... I actually like the HVAC controls (in the AU1) better than mine ... but the rest of the console in the AU1 Forte is not my cuppa tea though.
I like my AUII black console

i reckon the AUII/III centre stack is more modern. I think the AU S pack and AU classic and XLS had the black centre stacks. I've seen one in an XLS and it looks very nice. Its the same finish as the AUII/III centre stacks pretty much.

Same as this
Pic of LG's interior .... his interior looks more grey ... but I think it's the warm Charcoal like mine (pretty much black) I have the black door inserts as well (factory) ... but i want to replace them for something smoother (very dark grey leather ... to match the MOMO steering wheel inserts) ... and do suede door pads and centre console lid as well ... but that's later down the track ..... I need to remind myself it's a work ute first .... LOL

It is a straightforward job; only thing to watch out for is a plastic clip which holds the heat setting cable in placve. It attaches to the rear of the console. |
