I was going to comment on this and remind people that these unlicensed menaces may then continue to drive without a license and therefore no CTP insurance, but you probably wouldn't hear me above the rustling tin foil...

Funny thing in NSW there is plenty of room in the prisons, magistrates dont want to lock you up as that cost money. Just a fine and a bond and off you go. I work in the juvenile system at one centre they have room for 180 inmates lucky to have 60. Why do so many get sent home only to re offend and bash someone else?.... and so the cycle continues......

Our governments are not really interested in protecting us its all about the dollars be it fines or locking people up their question is "what can we do that will cost us less and make us more $$$?"
More police on the road "no way that cost us $$$ against the one off cost of a camera and we will make good $$$ it's all about Return on Investment (ROI) but we will sell it to the masses as saving lives, however not one life has ever been saved by a speed camera.

Its plain as day when it comes to how govco is run: like a business. The question then becomes who owns the business because it sure ain't us the public...

And where is the study that shows speed kills?

There isn't one because it doesn't!

But so much easier to fine you for speeding than attempt to prove dangerous driving.

I came across this well researched vid the other day. Quite topical!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BKdbxX1pDw

And then the issue of speedo accuracy and ADRs.

I think the reason i love speed is down to wearing a blue uniform from age 18, 22 years of driving bliss and never got done for speeding. I was always in front of everyone else....

Naturally that was before the days of speed cameras when you were informed of your naughty ways at the time and could think about it.

Revenue raising for sure. Bad driving & drug/alcohol are the killers. Oh and mobile phones/distractions.

Not interested in revenue my backside,
Without significant traffic infringements being recorded, there's no justification for maintaining police numbers
