We employ 45 people, and will grow in 2015. I'm just very fortunate to have good employees. It does wonders when you treat your workers well and that they know they are valued and appreciated.

The problem with western society is we have developed a unhealthy sense of entitlement. Our demand for increased wages, social security, subsidized education, healthcare, retirement packages, etc. They come at a price. That price is very expensive costs to do business. We as consumers have decided we don't want to be the ones to pay for it, so we buy the cheaper imported products, but we complain when our jobs are gone. I am sick of the people who say "I have no other choice." If there was economic demand for domestic products regardless of a higher price, then many entrepreneurs would be opening up businesses. Detroit still has this entitled attitude even though they have sucked all the wealth out of it and it's complete poverty now. What would it take to make it thrive again? Sadly, people would rather take economic decline over a thriving city where companies get tax exemptions and employees get income tax. They care more about the "fairness" in their mind than the opportunity for success. We need to change our perspective, until that happens, don't expect any growth.

I have a set of Aussie made ROH "Wedge" wheels on my XR8, Im not a fan of how they look to be honest. But I hit a pothole accidentally last week, and they didn't fold like a taco as Ive seen some wheels do. No buckles, nor thrown out of balance. I can live happy with that. |

Liberals: let the free market sort it out. Labor: give billions of dollars in hand-outs to car makers (which in turn send an profits overseas) Palmer: give everyone what they want and deal with the consequences later (actually that's quite similar to Labor's plan). Both parties's plans have positive and negative attributes. But in the end of the day, it wasn't the government that killed Ford and Holden. It was the Aussie public who stopped buying their cars (the government are the only people buying Falcon/Commodores) and the car makers themselves that kept making cars people didn't want. |

Govco needs to create incentives to buy local, and dis-incentives to buy foreign.
That's how other countries are protecting their own interests - they're using high import tariffs, local subsidies and more, making it cheaper to manufacture at the local level. It might not support a high volume consumerist throwaway market, but it certainly creates a stable and confident one, for the betterment of the citizens and the industry as a whole.

The AU was the last Falcon to wear ROH wheels , wheel repair shops happily re roll or even weld their rims where possible , not so the imported rims for the BA and onwards cars.
ROH wheels were of a higher quality than most .

When wages in China increase to levels that is unprofitable to operate in the country, which is bound to happen in the next 15 years or so.... Companies will jump ship to another country that can provide cheaper labor i.e. Africa.
" The average working wage has more than doubled over the past 10 years but still, in current terms, is up to 60 per cent lower than the global average. In the private sector, wages have increased from 16,024 yuan ($2750) a year in 2004 to 46,769 yuan last year. " |

Even your reply uses American spelling. Thats the problem. We've lost our identity as a country. Most are completely ignorant of what Australia has done in the past and was bloody good at. Young Australians don't know what we had, so they don't know the magnitude of what we have lost. The country of opportunity and a fair go has been forgotten as we obsess on becoming little America. We might as well just become the 51st state of the United States of America. So sad. |

Many specialised industries were either systematically destroyed by China as its subsidised its way to market leadership or they purchased the companies and the IP around the world. In Australia, because we are so incredibly stupid, that has extended to buying out raw resources and agriculture. Not leasing - buying. Owning forever. Shipping out the wealth and opportunity back to China for cents in the dollar of its true value. China will outsource some lower cost work, but they will never forfeit their wealth and new middle class like we did. They will simply put the prices up and countries like us, that have no IP, no remaining skills as the older generation die off and no sense of investing and doing things for the greater good, will remain addicted whiners, who just keep on paying and building their wealth. Increasingly working in **** jobs for foreign owned companies. Meanwhile the wealth that should have been our kids, will be forfeited and China will benefit from them. But hey we all got a cheap TV and a drill from Bunnings. Totally worth selling out our grand kids. We were stupid when we sold our neighbours job for cheaper stuff from China. China isn't that stupid - after all we were playing to their game plan. Last edited by DanielXR8; 24-08-2014 at 11:14 PM. |

I've read an article recently stating that more of the coming generating are enrolling into Universities than ever before and this trend was set to continue in the coming decades. It was predicted that half of the high school graduates will take University education in the next couple decades, that figure increasing to 65-70% by 2050. We will have a more educated, skilled workforce by that time. Future production of goods will be based on the ability to innovate and improve efficiency.. Think 3D printers, this century will be the western century.... |

Even engineering jobs are outsourced overseas to our competitors. Who do you think makes the 3D printers?

One of the things that i see from my own life experience, is not every one has what it takes to be a rocket scientist, a brain, an industry leader,a jumbo jet pilot, etc ,etc............ and that can be for a lot of reasons, and i do know some clever dudes that had uni degrees and at the end of it ended up cleaning toilets because there was no work despite their best efforts . There will always be a section of the community who need a hands on type job/non intellectual/rocket scientist type job, some people just are not cut out for it, and to me it appears these are the sorts of jobs that are mostly disappearing. look at the country's that have a good labor force/manufacturing industry, these are the ones that are economically kicking butt. look at our diminishing labor force, as it grows smaller, crime is growing bigger, more homeless on the streets, is this a coincidence ???? i think not. i might be wrong but i think we are on a slippery slope unless things change. |

Hate to make it sound left, but we all are on the same boat. As Kennedy said, "we all breathe the same air'. Sure, we all expect reward for hard won yards in degrees, but some of us for some reason or another are unable to contribute the hard yakka.
Most folk can contribute in some way, maybe not to the high expectations of the high achiever. Hold on buddy, you are 1 gene away from total collapse. I know the ROH thread is a bit lean in which to place my thoughts, but darn, we are all travelling on the same ship. Okay, I might currently be sitting midship, but an accident or disease away, and I'm down in the bilge . I have always wanted to purchase a set of ROH. When I was a young lad (prior to licence), I would read in Wheels, adds re: the ROH Super Lights and immediately added them to my want list I still want some ROH Super Lights. (or similar). (Threads on the tyre wheel thread regarding light wheels).
