Default max save rpm for au i6

ive been playing around with the cam timing on our i6 and ,i was wondering what the the maximum safe rpm would be ? it still has the factory rev limiter .i want to retard this g&d cam a bit and see what i can get out of it .

seen some rev as high as 8000rpm, but they were fully balanced big $$$$ engines..

max safe id say about 6200-6300rpm...

any reason you want to rev it harder?
unless you change the cam so its still making power all the way to the higher rpm, theres no real point..
but id say even with stock internals, mild head work, cam and a good tune, 6200-6300 still would be about on its limits..

i set my limited to 6g when i got my engine rebuild, it is a safe limit, mind u my power curve was still going up by the time i hit the limiter. the estimated max power was aroun 6300.

my ea engine was able to rev to around 6300 ... i have no idea how it handled it, i stripped down after the drags and sold it off in parts

Max safe RPM is when you hit the rev limiter.

Yeh, the limiter is a hard limiter - if you hits those revs, the ECU cuts fuel etc to drop the revs, when they drop, it restores fuel and the revs rise again, hitting the limiter - hence "bouncing off the rev limiter"

The highest safe limit id say would be 6k. By safe I mean you could take it there as many times as you want and not worry about blowing the rods out of it. Ive taken mine to around 6300-6400 (hard to tell cos the tacho stops at 6000) and it had no problems, but at that rpm the piston speed would be appraching insane levels.

Long stroke engines dont like to rev. Just think, the pistons in an I6 at 6000rpm travel further per second than a v8 supercar on the rev limiter.
