Default Engine starts and stops again immediately

Hi there...

Our 4.0 Litre has a new habit.

Starting the engine after the weekend the first time in the morning, engine starts and stops immediately.

Second go everything perfect. Starts quickly and idles smoothly.

I can't think what it could be.

If it was the fuel pump, the engine wouldn't start at all or run smoothly and if there was a vacuum leak, it would also cause trouble.

I haven't checked the throttle body or IAC valve for build up but does anyone else have an idea what it could be?

Thanks for any info...

The Moose

Try letting the fuel system prime for longer than usual before actually attempting a start? Sounds fuel (pressure?) related to me with the info provided.

I found it was related to fuel types. Mine only did it on BP ultimate.

Try a change for a month

Get a ecu scan, that will tell you what the problem is without guessing. Fuel filter ok?

Yeah I always pause when i turn the key to 'on' and wait until i hear the fuel pump finish priming before I actually start it.

Two other things to try are this: new battery. I had an old battery one time, and the oomph from it was enough to kick the engine over, but not enough to let it catch and continue.

So in that instance before I replaced the battery I just held the key down longer and let it crank away until I was passed the danger zone.

I second the battery, had similar issue and new battery fixed it.Quite suprising how much quicker the new battery kicks it over.
