Sounds like an extremely fun car for the money.

The RS is the pinnacle of the Focus range, the GT350 is the pinnacle of the Mustang range.
I know what I'd rather have ! (I'd actually like both but the RS isn't going to beat the GT350 to the top of my most wanted list). It's certainly great that Ford are producing these cars though. |

I reckon it'd be hell fun to drive. Probably a bit small (I love the room of my Falcon) for me, but the gf wants us to have one car between us, so it'd be a nice compromise.

Ford have done some really stupid things over the years, both in Australia and globally. But the new Focus RS is a truly extraordinary effort and really shows what the company can achieve when they put the money into the product. The amount of expensive structural and hardware changes that have been made to the Focus is above and beyond what Ford would typically approve for production. Also the amount of press the vehicle is getting and very positive for the brand.
The Focus RS wouldn't be my first choice for my next car (Mustang GT ) but that still find the RS an intriguing proposition.

You and me both! The current crop of 4 & 5 cylinder diesel utes have no appeal to me, but a V8 diesel? That's an entirely different story.

It doesnt really matter , if you like the RS good , if you like the XR8 .... also good, the fact is , you can have a ball in a 400 dollar clunker and it doesn't matter which wheels are driven, personally i would go the XR8 , but to each his own.

I'm sure the RS will be a great car, and the leader of the pack and the choice amongst the small turbo cars and performance hot hatches like the WRX, Golf GTI and others on the market.
And d in a mountainous region with lots of tight twisty bends, then yes, it would most probably beat any rear wheel large heavy car like an XR8, Mustang or XR6T being AWD in the chase. If you lived in Europe where small cars are the go and city streets are crowded and narrow, it would be perfect no doubt. But Australia is a vast country mainly of open roads and long straight highways, not twisty Alps and nothing beats a Falcon or large comfortable sedan to tear up those long journeys and arrive at your destination still feeling refreshed and not like you've "driven" the car and after 500 Kms feeling exhausted and needing a coffee as you do in a small hatch. But horses for courses and each to their own. To the uninitiated general car public, who would not know the difference between a base model Focus, an ST or RS... It will just be another cute hot hatch with a high mount rear spoiler and aggressive front end, looking slightly different to the many hatches on the market, that will become increasingly common when most of the larger sedans and V8's are gone. It will never "turn heads" the way a Mustang does, just like WRX's, GTI's no longer do. It won't have the street cred of an XR8, GT or even XR6T. A 40 year old Mustang cruising past a road side cafe, will still get the latte sipping patrons looking up and admiring with envy.... An RS will go past mostly unnoticed, and a few years down the track your $50K 2016 RS will just be another forgotten hot hatch of yesteryear in the sea of new hatches and SUV's that will be common place. I will never forgot the day this guy pulls up to a country pub in his new Focus ST shares a drink with a few locals sitting outside, and carries on about how great his ST is and what a great car it is to drive.... One of the guys stands up and says "mate... everything you say I'm sure is true.... But there's one thing your turbo hairdryer will never have that puts a smile on my face every day", as he walks up to his XR8, leans through the car window and fires it up.... "the lovely exhaust note and rumble of this V8 !"..... The ST driver's smile leaves his face knowing the sad truth, and drives off "quietly" in his hot hatch, while all the other locals down another beer in laughter. |

Yeh that one time you spot an RS every 5 years, let alone line one up would make the sweat start to bead lol. You'll see about 40 XR8s before that. Both great cars, both nothing alike in design or purpose. I'd have the Focus too!
Now if they'd got Ken Block to consult on the XR8..

Each motor is good but in the end no substitute for cubes, yeah the 2.5 skyline motor feels like a 5.0 when the turbo comes on but its still not the same. The focus is fast yeah but its the AWD, give a v8 a turbo and AWD and you will soon forget the focus. As far as the v8 being a dinosaur, all engines were designed 100 years ago, the 4 cylinder no exception. I still wont sell my 4 cylinder cars though, very fast in a targa rally type situation, feels like a go kart after some big cars lol. |

Different strokes for different folks.
Doesn't matter if it "turns heads" or has "street cred" - at the end of the day being car enthusiasts, buy whatever makes you happy - who gives a toss what others think.

Doesn't change the fact that it does not seat five in comfort.

As for truth you've never posted a true word on this forum. Get back in your rust bucket and drive off into the sunset. Anyway as for the long trips ive had no issue in mine ad ive done 3 or 4 3500km return trips in mine. Only issue i had was first trip when the car was new the seats were still tight, after that no worries.
