Post Camry Update June 2016

"Toyota has given its 2016 Camry a mild upgrade, singling out its Atara SX for the majority of added gear.

All models are now fitted with ISOFIX child safety points.

Atara models are now fitted with front and rear corner parking sensors, with the S variant also gaining a 4.2-inch digital information display in the dash.

The range topping Atara SL now comes with a wireless phone charger and an optional 18-inch alloy wheel package with sportier suspension is now available.

Most additions are saved for the Atara SX, which adds in-built satellite navigation, a larger seven-inch touchscreen with digital radio and a new JBL audio system, 18-inch alloy wheels, red inserts on the front grille and rear diffuser, power rear sunshade and the reversing camera now features predictive driver guidelines.

Engine variants remain the same for all petrol and hybrid variants.

Prices remain the same, except for the Atara SX, which has seen an increase of $1500 up to $33,490 plus on-road costs.

The refreshed range goes on sale from June 6.
2016 Toyota Camry prices*

Toyota Camry Altise: $26,490 (petrol), $30,490 (hybrid)

Toyota Camry Atara S: $29,490 (petrol), $32,490 (hybrid)

Toyota Camry Atara SX: $33,490 (petrol-only)

Toyota Camry Atara SL: $37,44 (petrol), $40,440 (hybrid)"

I have to say, I'm a massive fan of the Camry styling. I can see why they're one of the best selling cars on the market. I'm still coming to terms with the fact the Ranger is still the best selling car in NZ. I mean I understand it's a good ute, but who would've thought it would catch on so well with the average joe buyer.

I see various names on Camry boot lids but have no idea what they mean.
But then I guess all makes are guilty - I used to know what a Fairmont was.

As has been said by so many others!!
Buying a Camry is like buying no name brand at the Supermarket. So Plain and Bland
Looks like a car, sounds like a car, but when you drive it, its just transport.

I guess that's kinda the point of a Camry though, easy cheap and reliable transport, gets the job done as painlessly as possible. Bear in mind that 80% of drivers on the road actually don't enjoy driving, or are at the very least just indifferent to it.

Now the Aurion Sportivo's on the other hand. Nice bit a kit on them, even though they're FWD. I sure hope Toyota keeps the Aurion's going after manufacturing closes, I'd be sad to see them go.

They should ditch the Aurion and put the 3.5 V6 in the Camry

I dont like the looks of it.

Some more specs and 0-100 in 9.6 second in 2.5L form apparently as per below

They used to put the 3L V6s in the Camry before the Aurion was introduced. I'm sure if the Aurion doesn't continue on, they'll start putting the 3.5s in the Camry again. I don't think they'll do that though, cause a big selling point of the Aurion is the lack of a Camry badge.

There you go ... I thought an Aurion was a model in the Camry range.
No wonder I'm confused. However I have no intention of boning up on those cars as they just hold no interest to me.

The Aurion and Camry are the same car, the Camry in its different trim level get the 2.5L i4, the Aurion in different trim levels gets the 3.5L V6.

The bodies are the same, they just use different front and rear treatments.

Back in the late 80's you could get the SV21 series in 2.0L i4 or 2.5L V6, then when the widebody came out they called the V6 a Vienta, same car as the 2.2L i4 Camry except for the engine and badges, this continued for the wedged shape of the late 90's until 2001 when the body style changed.
During that 01-06 model they used the Camry badge with either configuration, i4 or V6.
From 06 they split them again and called the V6 Aurion.

Great daily, thats it.

I think the quote from State of Origin 1 applies here, owning and driving a Camry is like losing your virginity, not pretty but it gets the job done.

Camry sales in Australia are not that good. It hasn't even been in the top 10 best sellers for several years.

It looks good except for that stupid red strip in the front grille. What were they thinking when they decided to slap that in there? It simply looks out of place and isn't suitable for the styling of the vehicle.

I remember one time I saw a P plater who has stuck some red neon lights to his vn ute's front grille. This reminds me of that. It looks ridiculous and has totally turned me off the vehicle. I don't even understand why they have put it there?

I reckon it would be a pretty quick car to be honest but I doubt it would be much use once you leave the tarmac. Unfortunately modern front wheel drives don't really handle sand or gravel that well. Even older Hyundais would handle it better. I don't truly understand why they moved away from the rugged construction of years gone by.

I have heard that Camry's can do a quarter mile time comparable to that of a Ford Falcon (N/A). I wonder if that's true because if so it really makes me reconsider how I feel about those vehicles.

I just hope this model comes with indicators for turning, or changing lanes.
Previous models didn't even have these as an option.

More like how many minutes or hours. Would rather walk or catch the bus than ride or drive a Camry if it were the last car on earth.

The V6s are pretty comparable to the NA Falcons in a straight line. That said the falcons have better traction and will get off the line better. And ofc, the moment theres a corner the falcons will leave the Camry's for dust. I owned an Lexus ES before my Fairlane and the handling is a night and day difference, I'm sure the Falcons will handle even better than my barge. On that note, Control Blade IRS is a truly amazing setup, no idea a barge could handle so well!
