Default Engine oil advice

I have an AU Fairmont with the VCT engine that has done 240000 kms and is on LPG. The car is both using and dropping oil. The amount it drops is not great but my mechanic informs me seals are leaking from several places. He has advised me to use a thicker oil and to use a "stop oil leak" additive to minimise the leaking. What type of oil would you advise and does the "stop leak" help at all? Thx.

I used 15w40 on my LPG AU in warm QLD, from 593k to 745k over 10 years.
It would both use and drop oil. The timing cover seal leaked, but it was only 1 drop per night, every night, for 10 years.
And the only reason it used oil (about 300 or 400ml for about 7000kms from memory?) was because I took the car to redline at some point in every outing. Every day. Every single day. For 10 years.

Valvoline Maxlife in the same viscosity (imo because of the vct & kays) could be useful imo, guys on bitog rate it pretty high. Worth checking out, good luck!

cheers, Maka

This might be coming from out of left field, but aren't the seals there to keep the oil in & the dirt out?

Perhaps an option could be to replace the seals?

You need to find a mechanic a bit smarter than the one you are using.
The suggestion of increasing engine oil viscosity to minimise leakage is ridiculous.
