Default Fg ambient temperature display

Need some help please, my fg xr8 is showing the wrong temperature on the display. It's probably 10-15 degrees out. Can I do some type of reset or just buy a new temperature sensor in the mirror.

The factory manual says it is not serviceable as a separate component and if the ambient temperature sensor is faulty the whole left hand (passenger side) mirror must be replaced.

That said the sensor is likely a thermistors that reduces its resistance as the temperature increases so if it is under-reading you could simply try inserting a resistor in the wiring (test using a resistance wheel from Jaycar or Altronics to determine the required résistance to correct the reading. If it's over-reading I'd be trying to carefully dismantle the mirror and then try and determine the value of the thermistor used. It might be one like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ambient-Air-...5YpBap&vxp=mtr or more likely this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Motorcr...VXKSR-&vxp=mtr

Better perhaps get hold of a broken mirror from a wreckers and see if the thermistor matches any in those links. This will also allow you to investigate the safest way to dismantle and reassemble the mirror and perhaps even use the thermistor sensor from the broken mirror.

Thanks for the advice, ford are now selling the sensor separately they are about $30 on eBay. Might just buy one and fit it.

There's a Ford Service bulletin, you definitely do replace just the sensor (it's only a resistor). I did it in my old FG, I think it was $13 from Ford, so cheaper than eBay.

This thread may help, but you have to be careful not to break the mirror when removing it (see Post#10 in the link).

Also read this: http://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/owner...2_OM2-PID86299 "Why Are Car Thermometers So Inaccurate?" albeit the comments about the thermistor being in the grill don't apply. Also http://weathercurrents.com/NewsItemDisplay.do?Id=267

Some were replaced by Ford under warranty see https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1259580

G'day , I'm not sure what amazes me more ..Either that you can buy it without needing to buy the whole thing OR Ford is cheaper than EBAY. Go figure..
About six months ago I decided to replace the ZF 6 speed leather boot around the lever as the original FG one from my Mk 1 was cracking .
Ford only wanted to sell me the whole gearshift lever mechanism complete.
$240 thankyou very much from one and $251 for another Ford Dealer. NUP..
I ended up picking up the boot and lever assembly for about $94 delivered that was original Ford item and it was brand new.
Glad to see Ford is starting to wake up on such stuff for this kind of thing.
Cheers Rod.
