hey, i,m cleaning up a honda 13 hp small engine. it has small amount of light surface rust at top of the bore. its a cast iron sleeve bore and measures in very good, it has no lip at top of bore. first time i,ve done a small engine and need grit recommendations, and should i use kerosene or diesel during honing . i look forwards to all options. thanks .

TBH if the bore is pretty clean you could get away with using some fine grit Emery paper and wd-40 to sand away the rust at the top of the bore.
But if you do want to hone it just buy a small honing tool from Bursons/Repco and stick it in a power drill. You can buy honing oil but I would just use kero. Fit honing tool inside bore and use a slow speed and push and pull honing tool up and down slowly to make cross hatches in bore. Should only take about 5-10 minutes to clean it all up. Wash out kero with some fresh petrol then re assemble. |
