Does an LPG tanker look different from a normal fuel tanker?

I've never seen anything other than the traditional Toll/Linfox fuel tanker refilling a servo.

You'd notice, as just about all servos LPG tanks are above ground.

LPG Tanker is a very different setup to Fuel/Petrol Tanker. I drive LPG Tankers for a living.

Only the small ones mate. 7.5kl and 8kl tanks usually are above ground. Majority of LPG tanks are underground with the petrol tanks. Less exposure to heat and expansion in the ground.

He may well have. And maybe theirs come from the Altona plant, but that doesn't appear to be where the majority of the ExxonMobil LPG is refined/distributed from.

Can't tell you the last time I saw an LPG tank above ground at a servo.

All LPG road tankers and static tanks are painted white. White reflects the most sunlight hence keeping the tanks cooler.

Bugger all servo's up here in the N.T have gas anymore, ya can't take the chance to go down the track when you drive a only LPG car/ ute/whatever any more. Bloody Pollies have got no idea of what is happening in the real world.

Well, the original question posed at the start of this thread was what would the impact to LPG supplies be of the closure of the Altona refinery (which is owned and operated by ExxonMobil), and you stated that a guy at APCO said they were supplied from Altona. I'm just saying that the majority of lpg supplied by ExxonMobil does not come form the Altona plant.

Personally, I get my lpg from woolies (Caltex), but I have no idea where they source their lpg from.

Hope that clears that up?

But seriously what’s going on? LPG fuel prices have jumped over the past quarter from below .80c now looking at $1.10!!! In my area, is this truly because of summer rates, nearing prices close to unleaded. Might have to reconsider buying a petroleum car soon 😞

How far off is the total shut down of lpg? I thought there was a decision a few years ago to stop selling lpg for vehicles by a certain date.

This will be the major cause:

Quote:
Originally Posted by AMB View Post

but supply/demand in Australia will also be a factor, especially given the number of servos that are getting out of supplying lpg when their tanks are up for recertification. Lack of demand drives fewer bowsers, which then drives people away for lpg even more, which decreases demand. Also keep in mind that there will be very few new (to lpg) vehicles coming into the market but there will constantly be those leaving the market. It's a downward spiral, unfortunately.

When I bought my Ecolpi ute two years ago, I was hoping it would see out my working life. I don't think it's going to get anywhere near that...

When falcadores stopped being the choice of cabbies, LPG was doomed.
