Default Kia will overtake Mazda and Ford

Food for thought and debate in the pub:

https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-new...an-ute-and-new

Found his analysis of Mazda agreeable, after our discussing the CX60 in the Vfacts thread.

What do you think - will Kia's new product help them overtake Mazda and the Ranger company?

Both Mazda and Ford seem to have pivoted to maximising margin. The Ranger car company is also more vulnerable to sales trend changes. And I'm not clear how it is that dual cab Utes can cost so much...

So for different reasons, yes, Kia has a shot at doing this. Though losing the Rio was a backwards move, theyre essentially ceding the budget end to the Chinese brands.

Regarding the Rio - do Kia not still have the Picanto?

As for the budget end of the market - it's gone far downhill since Ford was running out LV Mk 2 Focus Zetec for $19,990 with leather.

I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen.

Ford Aust. should be selling 500-800 units of all new Transit Custom and larger Transit per month with EV's of both available/coming and the Torneo also coming so this should be closer to 1000 units per month if supply is freely open. A hybrid Ranger is obviously coming and the new government regs have been amended based on the industries feedback so not sure what that does to current sales.

However to be successful you need a model diverse range from passenger car to commercial vehicles to hang around long-term.

Ford AU are just another Isuzu Ute. They sell 2 models off the same Ute platform. That’s it.

One model of SUV. Have it any way you like, with an open or closed cargo area.

Nothing much to debate.
Range invaribly wins in the end hence the Toy crowd has been dominate last 20yrs easily.
You can't be a market leader for a long relying on 1 platform plain and simple.
rejoice the godd times but the end will come.
KIA/Hyundai have great vision ahead and for sometime.
Leading from the front with long Wty's now others follow.
Hatchs/sedans/SUV's/commercials/ute coming/EV's its range range range, punters have warmed up to the brand job is done.
Mazda never cared about being a market leader the company isn't geared as such but imo have good offerings for the market, good product for the punters, good reputation generally and going semi premium provides good margins.
They'll survive for sometime yet despite the shuffling of the deck.

Just on Ford Au and it's focus on such a limited range of vehicles, I listen to triple m and Ford are sponsoring their afternoon segments. At the end of the promo: "Ford Ranger, available at your nearest Ford Ranger dealer". Not even a Ford dealer. Just a ford Ranger dealer these days.....

You know, I have this “theory” that Mazda does well in our market exactly because
it’s where a good portion the ex-Ford & Holden SUV and car buyers have gone…..

Maybe it was just the mental reset of seeing what a full range dealership looks like,
so many different cars and SUVs from just one brand….

I got the stinger last year because FPV or HSV aren't around anymore, and I let Kia know that.

KIA and their daddy Hyundai are fighting a loosing battle against the tidal wave of new Chinese brands worldwide , the good thing about that for KIA Australia at least in the short term is we get to see almost all their efforts here compared to just a fraction of that Chinese Tidal Wave , but with their worldwide market share dropping it's hard to predict their future strategies.
