Driving my mothers car today I discovered that when I press on the brake pedal, the parker lights turn on and the dash cluster also illuminates. Anyone have an idea on what might be going on
It's a 2000 Ford Falcon AU Forte

One of your brake lights has burned out the brake filament on one side and it has dropped onto the tail light filament inside the globe so when you put power to the brake light circuit it powers up the parking light circuit as well hence your dash lights and all your parkers come on. Change the tail/brake light globes and all will go back to normal.

Alternatively, someone has somehow installed a single filament globe to a twin filament stop/tail bayonet. I have seen this done before and have this effect. Resolution is the same- replace globes with stop/tail twin filament globe.

Hi there,
This thread was so valuable and thanks. I have a Ford Territory 2008 TX and the dash lights and parking lights were all coming on when braking. If I had parker lights on the brake lights were flashing. Turns out the double filament globe in one of the brake lights had blown one filament and replacing the globe fixed the problem. cheers. |
