Default Help! Is it possible to install 2 single DIN head units into an AU XR6?

Is it possible to replace the double din stock AU XR6 cd player with 2 single single DIN units (Dvd/cd/mp3 player and in dash pop out 7" monitior). Are special brackets etc aeropro gear available?? has anyone done it?

YES it can be done

the units stack ontop of eachother
you just have to trim out the 2 little lips on each side of the bottom of the hole

its a tight fit tho but does fit
(mine goes in)
and there is a metal frame around the middle area of the opening that goes around both units so no need for bracketry

just use the cage things supplied with your unit

the only thing you will run into is the surrounds may not fit around the units
my dvd player one does but the screen item does not (due to wierd shape of the dash opening)

here is a pic with the screen out in my fairlane

Yes it's possible. I did it in mine and everything blackers said is absolutely correct. It is a tight fit but a nice and perfect fit too. I could only fit one surround but I modified the other surround for the stereo and eventually got that to fit too.

Here's a link showing mine done:

There's a picture that shows the 2 surrounds on. And as I said, you just have to cut and modify it a bit. The only problem I had was when the screen was open, it sat right over those 3 buttons above (door lock, aerial and demister buttons) but no big deal, just move the screen a little. Other than that, no issues at all.

Some nice setups there guys , they look sweet , i want one ! ..lol.

Just something i have been curious about - with the dash leaning towards you/foward from top to bottom, i was just wondering how those poput screens go when you have them popped out , can you actually get the screen to come out enough so the screen actually points up towards you a bit ? , or do they all seem to point downwards a bit in the au dash because of the leaning foward of dash shape ? , just curious , cheers .

Whats the product quality of your screen and unit like? The reason i ask is that it looks similar to some of the cheaper ones you see on ebay. I have been thinking about getting one for awhile but was a bit hesitant. Is it worth the purchase?

mine is 1 of the cheap Ebay ones

from oz auctions(thats the username on ebay i think) in melbourne

it was $130 and im quite happy with it

i was talking to other people and htey said they cant tell $1000 worth of difference between the 2 screens

the only thing i found was that you cant connect a 2nd screen via a daisy chain(the screens have no OUTputs only 2 INputs(more expensive screens have an in and an out)

and on the AU dash.. the screen sits STRAIGHT up and down.. but thats as much tilt as it can get before hitting the dash sadly

for the price the chinese screens are defiantly worth it

Theres nothing wrong with cheap if it works the same, i just wanted to ask someone who had one before i bought one. As for the tilting issue,
is it hard to make whats on the screen when you are in the front seats ie do you have to tilt and crane your head to see whats on the screen.

Looks like blackers and I have the same screen from the same eBay seller (actually I should say "had" because I just had mine all removed the other day) I had no problem with quality BUT you have to adjust it properly because if you go and have a look at my pictures, I think there's a screen shot there of the Sopranos and you can see how funny (kinda tinny in a way) it can look from the side angle. But you just have to play with the settings until it's right.

And as far the screen popping back when it's out. I didn't have a problem with that. Obviously, having those buttons there stopped it from going further back when popped out but it goes back enough. Also, when we fitted the screen (in the fascia), we didn't push it all the way in, we sat it forward just a touch so that there'd be no issues when the screen was popped out. Know what I mean?

For the price I got it at, it was good. It worked well except once in a while the screen would go funny, as in, it would go fuzzy or turn black and white. Now, that only ever happen during summer on those extremely hot days that we had. But other than those few times, it worked really well. That seller did offer to replace mine but who could be stuffed ripping it all out lol so it didn't bother me. If I had paid $1000 then that would have been a different story.

I also have one of those screens Krissy and blackers are talking about.

I had intermittent problems with it not turning on when I want it to but it's making way for something better when I do my sound upgrade.

The guys who installed it for me had to shave some part of the centre facia to get it to fit properly.

There will be an EOI for my gear in the For Sale section sometime soon.
