Default whine in the diff ford ba

since i had a job done on back wheel that required pulling the axle I've had a bit of a whine in the diff.

Could be a problem? Or just live with it, it's okay?

Gear oil is better, the alcohol in wine will turn acidic and ruin your bearings.

It’s not hard to pop the back cover off and inspect the gears - why not do that for peace of mind?

Yep, well if i get a sudden rush of blood to the head I might do that. What am I looking for? Should there be oil in there or grease? How much? Any slack to be observed/checked for anywhere? I suppose a bit obvious thing is chipped or broken teeth but I'd expect more than a 'whine' from that.

'whine' isn't really the word, either. but I don't know what is. i can just hear it is the thing where I never could before. makes a sound like something turning, how's that for a description..?

yes there is a lot of whining.... from the diff. have at least 3 here that love a good wine.. thirsty work too.

1- Should there be oil in there or grease? ~ if there is grease .. at least it's lubed up ..... oil only and the correct spec.
2- How much? ~ hopefully you emptied what was in there & topped it back up thru the filler whole..
3- Any slack to be observed/checked for anywhere? ~ there will be some slack ..... but not too much. too much and it's stuffed
4- I suppose a bit obvious thing is chipped or broken teeth but I'd expect more than a 'whine' from that ~ and that you would.
5- did anyone checkout the bearing whilst removed?
6- i can just hear it is the thing where I never could before. makes a sound like something turning, how's that for a description..? ~ sounds good to the deaf bastaard over hear....

Perhaps it was previously filled with 140W and now it’s 85W/90 or something?

I would replace the diff oil and make sure it is at correct level; you could also add a diff additive such as Penrite Shift Eze Gearbox & Differential Treatment or Rislone Axle and Differential Gear Repair.

Was the wheel bearing replaced when the shaft was pulled?
