Default More problems.. !!

Hoping I can get some opinions on this.

I'm not sure if it's my engine or transmission.

When I've got the clutch pedal pushed in it is fine. When I let the pedal out whether it be in neutral or in gear I'm getting a pretty loud rattling sound. I was hoping it was my engine because I'm replacing it anyway.. but since the clutch is effecting it I'm thinking it might be the transmission or something related to that. I can't tell if the sound is coming from the engine or transmission.

Also I had a brand new PBR clutch put in just 2 weeks ago.

What do you think it is from that description?

Could be the clutch fork rattling against the cover.
Try repositioning the clutch fork cover..

It's the box, my XH T5 did it too, I did more than 50,000k's in that car, 30,000k's with a DEV5, and it didn't change, no worse, no better.

depending on what the noise sounds like, it could be a majorly worn thrust bearing

Most of mine hadn't either, and I've had a few, thought the XH always had a rattle at idle.
I had 2 different clutches, and had several oil changes, as I said it never got better, though it also never got worse.

It also had a stuffed 2nd gear synchro, though I doubt it's related.

If it's the same noise I had, it won't be the thrust bearing as I had 2 new ones in mine over the time I owned it.

Mine may have done it whilst driving, though I couldn't hear it over engine exhaust noise, road noise etc.

My brother still has the car, I'll take note when I see him next.

Thanks for your help guys... What I'll do is take it back to where I got the clutch done and see what they say.. Maybe I can blame them and get it fixed for free or at least discounted.

one thing to check is that the spring that keeps tension in the cable is there. it goes from the pedle to the firewall. My car used to tap like a lifter in an i6 after changing to manual. the spring wasn't there and the clutch fork was rattling against the bellhousing when there was no tension in the cable. it doesnt need much.

i thought it was my engine as well but only realised it wasnt when with even the slightest presure on the clutch pedle while driving the noise stopped.

Thanks Karl. I'm not sure if it will be that because the rattle seems to match the engine revs.. but I'll check it out anyway.
