Default clueless vehicle inspectors...

just took my ute down to get an ID check done (as its an interstate car).
they used to do the Id checks at the same place as defect inspections, now its in another building around the corner. Theres vehicle inspectors at both places.
At the same time as mine was being looked at, there was a black '57 tudor pillarless Chevy, dumped on fat convo's, 454 rat etc being inspected.
the owner was sweating lol...
I was standing between the Chev and my ute, and i said to the guy inspecting my car "that chevs a beautiful car", he replied "yeah, and its supercharged". I had another quick look in the bay, nope, no blower, just a hi-rise Team-G with a fat holley on top..
seeing my look of confusion, the inspector says to me "see the big intercooler?" I had to laugh, as he was pointing at the large aluminium radiator.. This guy was near on 60yrs old. I wonder how long he's been inspecting cars?

this wasn't the first time I've heard funny things from these guys..
my old XA coupe had to go in for a defect clearance a few years back. the guy looked at my shiney Edelbrock aircleaner and told me i had to fit a stock aircleaner. I said no I didn't, I'm allowed to run any airfilter I want, as long as theres one there, and theres a pcv system in place. He then went on to give me a lecture on vehicle emissions and ADR's. after he finished, i pointed out that my coupe was early '73, therefore pre-emmisions...

Some of these guy's have absolutely no idea whatsoever, especially when it comes to older cars.. and they're the official inspectors, not the fresh-from-the-academy police doing the roadside checks we all love...

anyone else heard weird/funny things from these guys?

Try getting straight answers from them on modifcations on early birds.

*No Effing Clue*

And unless you submit what you are planning in writing you can barely get sense out of them in their efforts to not be helpful.

Glad it's not just us Vic owners having that isssue. I had one telling me but my Torana had this etc .I had to stop him to explain it's an Ford XB not a Holden Torana. Clearly dilusional :.

I was down there also clearing a defect for pollution gear yet the car never had any from the factory. He disputed it but Ford put him straight. Now I keep the paperwork there just incase.

I'm not looking forward to when I have to take my XB coupe down there in a few months time.. it hasn't been registered in near on 10 years, it didn't come with number plates and the VIN doesn't exist on SA's system.. I have checked interstate tho and nothing dodgy has come back..
It's a dec '73 build, so it's also pre-emmisions.

A mate of mine had his stock EA Ghia knocked back because it had a passenger guard off an EB... the EB's vin number didn't match the EA's vin number...

WTF? who hasn't replaced a bent panel with a better one from the wreckers?

These guys doing the checks have no clue what so ever.

Last time my mates 5.0 fairmont went through there, they tried to argue that the polished HO intake manifold wasn't the standard one, because he reckoned, they don't look that.

I'm with Martin, I'd rather spend 45 minutes looking at my shoes than talk to those guys.

Makes you wonder who criteria they emply these people on maybe they should consider younger car minded people for the job, that said i dont think you people would defect a car if it was deemed to be leagla but aslong as if one was illegal they did

its simple stupid government agendas. They don't want modified cars or old cars on the roads, so they make it very difficult. Will be a fun day when the XP gets its first inspection

last time i dealt with them in adelaide i found that half of them were not even from the auto industry, quite a few of them at that time were ex house painters... they are useless. and really dont have a clue. If i act dumb can i get a nice easy job there knocking good cars back?

Mate had a XY replica with a shaker getting inspected. Inspector looked at the shaker and said, "nice toploader you got there"
I never knew you could tell what transmission a car had just by looking at the aircleaner/shaker!!! These guys are amazing!!! lol
