Can't say I can understand why anyone would think this is a good idea, yet to record it and post it on the net is next level dumb, I'm against a lot of the "Nanny State" rules and regs but this I don't feel is one of them.

I'm a little surprised docs didn't seize the child before the tilt tray arrived for the car. As previously stated, the dumbest thing done was to post the somewhat irresponsible parenting on Facebook as its easily traceable.. no further comment

I thought the same, it still could happen if they investigate.

Pretty stupid, but I agree it's just as dangerous for the kid on a horse, peewee 50 or ridding down the street to his mates place.

Posting it on book face was compleatly stupid

As for CPS they have to be involved after it's been in the media. But why are the mechanics checking for the car being roadworthy if it was ripping the skid in his driveway?

I've seen kids racing motocross doing epic stuff at very young ages. Silly putting it on Facebook etc. but if it was line locked and stuff and the kid was smart etc. I can't see any real danger in it. More dangerous crossing the road I would think...

Agreed, there's lots of Dumb parenting this is just another example.

Regarding being on Private property raises questions. I for one wouldn't be happy if my neighbour ripped burnouts in their driveway every Friday night after a few beers. (example)

I suspect there's more to it, they are likely to be repeat offenders and haven't yet been caught on the road..

He can't get prosecuted, but he can get done in for willful neglect of his child. CPS will ultimately give him hell until the child turns 18 in the form of frequent surprise visits/checks, general heckling etc. etc. As far as the law itself is concerned they have all the power to deem him unfit as a parent and remove the children into state custody. That's quite unlikely though.

On a personal opinion front though. Doesn't matter if a cars on private property or not. A 5 year old child has no place in the driving seat of a car or any other significantly powerful machine. He's at the age where he's still probably supposed to use a booster seat. I wouldn't classify the father as a bad parent cause he obviously only meant good, but he's definitely one of the dumbest parents I've ever seen.

People giving examples of it's as dangerous as riding a 50cc dirt bike or a go-kart or a horse, are clearly not thinking this through.

A 50cc bike is sized accordingly to a child, he can sit on the bike and reach the controls to operate the bike safely as they are designed for little people. A Commodore on the other hand if seated properly with seatbelt on, a 5 year old cannot reach all the controls to safely operate the car, he would not even be able to see over the dash.

Hence it is an absolute moronic thing to do to hand him the keys to the car to rip skids.

It's OK to let him ride a 50 cc bike designed for kids but not a Ducati... or ride a Miss Daisy around a paddock but not Black Caviar in the Melbourne Cup.

What would the law be for that?

How do kids get away with drag racing at the track then? I've seen kids in dragsters at Calder Park and even a 13yo drag a XF ute down Heathcote Raceway. Whats the difference between those things apart from a helmet?

Seeing over the steering wheel while getting a good purchase on the pedals would be a good start.

Ambulance on standby, armco, people supervising others so no body walks in the way, cars complying with safety regs probably more things as well. Here's the thing, nearly every safety rule comes about because something bad happened. Like how plenty of people got killed street racing since the dawn of drag racing hence why they now do it on a track.

It would be interesting if the police can charge the owner of the car with anything as it was on private property.

If they can this opens up a massive can of worms in regard to legal events. If the police so charge he owner with anything, does this mean thepolice will have power to impound cars doing burn outs on the track?

I doubt there would be anything in any legislation saying anything about a track or venue.

Good point there. I'm surprised no one has mention the part where Police are yet to work out what the father did was illegal as it was on private property...But hey we will take your car anyways...

These juniors are at a controlled event under strict supervision & rules with safety equipment on hand if needed, don't think a 5 year old child in someones private driveway qualifies under the same conditions.

Settle down boys, I was just responding to FG50T's post before mine, go back and read it.

As it happens, I don't necessarily have a problem with someone giving their kids a go in a car on private property, so long as they are there to supervise, and I think seizing the car is wrong and getting child protection involved is just a complete over reaction.

I get my daughter to move my work hack around our property all the time and if the cops tried to take the car I'd be demanding to see the charge before I let them pull it up on to a flat bed and I'd be on the phone to legal advise before it was strapped down.

We also don't know if neighbours called the police. While it's not high density, there's no doubt neighbours not too far away. This might be the first time there's been video evidence for the police to go further than make a visit and say "don't do that".

If you play music too loud they can take away your stereo, making too much noise (and there's probably something about the smoke too), why not take away the car?
