hey there... just been considering lately putting a V8 into my AU...
What would this involve? apart from ripping the whole engine out and replacing it... would i need to replace diff etc? i aint to mechanicly enclined but i roughly know a fair bit. Where would the best place to look for one and how much would one roughly cost. Sell the I6, buy a V8 and save yourself a massive amount of time, money and headaches. It simply isnt worth doing the transplant now. Even if you get it all running right, you have all the "vic roads" and EPA crap to get through. Simply not worth the effort when you can just go buy a V8 AU anyhow.

Get a fairmont V8. That way you have all the interior and goodies and then stick the kit on like you want. Casper is right, your better to sell the 6 and buy the 8

I was looking at doing that too... I really want a fairmont V8, all the "goodies" power everything. looking into it! Finding one cheap in good condition is hard!!! : |

Definately dont bother doing the V8 conversion.
I agree with everything Casper said. If your determined to keep your Au then turbo it instead

yeah slyox... sounds like the most logical way to go.. i might as well keep it and spend my money on what i know is a good car, apart froma few things. ( had it since brand new, so there is a bit of comfort knowing what i have! )

what would you blokes think about a manual conversion??
I just feel at home in a manual... autos are a bit too... i dont know... "automatic" for me. I seem to still drive my falcon manually using the shifter alot though... dont know if that is shite for it but hey... i like responsive throttle!! hehehe |

LOL.. You want.. AU with V8, Fairmont with all the "goodies" and a manual? All at a reasonable price too. Rob, you have NO choice but a AU1 TE50. Cheapest of the lot ATM, around $25'000 with around 100k's.

I've also been trying to find out about a manual conversion as the auto's just don't do it for me. From what I have found out it's just too damn expensive to do the conversion. I got quoted approx $4300 from Malwood auto which included labour and a manual ecu and roughly $4500 - $7000 from another place here in canberra. Looks like it might be easier to try and sell the car a few years down the track and get a manual then.

yeah i know wverything comes at a price... that is why i am asking around to get some figures... for $4500+ i wont be doing the conversion at all!!! what a joke!
I want to explore all my options before going ahead with even buying rims etc so i am not throwing money away... thanks guys :yeees: |

Buy a low boost (6psi?) turbo kit from TSA in Melbourne. Around $5000 will get you around 150rwkw. Only problem is, boost this low just makes you want more - which can turn into big $$$$. Just ask HOTDBZ (Mal).

Hey guy i can get a full manual convert for 1500 peddle box, computer and trans and the guy was goin to help me put it in. but one of my mates is goin to turbo my ute and he said that autos hold boost better and go harder. so i think i might keep my auto and rebuild it for some hard cord boost. so i can blow those holdens away
