i am having problems removing the springs from the shock absorber at the rear of my AU XR8. i have removed the shock absorber and springs from my car and cant seem to undo the nut that is at the top, middle of the rear shock monut. every time i turn the bolt the thread moves with it. is this supposed to do that? is that the bolt that removes the springs from the shockies?

You'll notice that the top of the thread has couple of flats. Hold the flats with a spanner (shifter will do) while you undo the nut.
Make sure you are using a coil spring compressor as demonstrated in the link as the nut is under considerable spring tension http://www.swapace.com/items/66314/C...et_auto_tools/ |

how important is it to use a spring compressor for the rears? i didnt use one and everything seems fine? i just tightened the middle bolt until it was really tight.
