Thinking of putting in an order with my bro and sis for the olds retirement pressy.
They want to do the trip round OZ with a caravan, and we are looking at the 4dr new Hilux with turbo diesel engine. Havnt got any specs, would you believe the toyota / hilux page has been down 2 days now??? It will be an auto box. Anyone drive these? Any issues with them? Will also do the search of the toyota forums as well. Cheers, Jason |

Boss at work just got a new one, brought the petrol one over the diesel, reckons it had more grunt to it.

I had a deposit on one untill the 5 speed auto Navara came out (vs 4 speed), nothing wrong with the Hilux at all, the difference is Navara gets you more for your're money and can tow 3000kg vs the Hilux 2300kg. Saved 8k for a better equipped ute.

i wouldnt know now. Their reputation on realability is excellent, service is fast, call up today and in tommorow. unlike VW's i have to wait 5 weeks before the dealership can look at an Air cond problem. Go the Turbo/diesel instead of petrol, espeacially if towing. |

I have exactly what you are looking at. Couldn't be happier with it. I considered the Navara briefly but the look of the hilux wins every time. It has heaps of grunt and I don't notice the 4 speed vs 5 speed issue at all. It took me 3 months for delivery and that was 2 months ago. I love it.

Go drive a Ranger and Hilux back to back. You wont want to get back into the Toyota.
The Auto (5speed) Ranger flies and has enough grunt to spin the wheels off the line. The Hilux feels doughy is comparison. Havnt driven the Navara but I cant say im impressed with the quality of Xtrails and Patrols.....

i have a 2003 SR5 Hilux turbo diesel, i love it. Slow as all hell but has some torque (i imagine the new ones are much better in the power stakes)
Mate has a 2003 Navara turbo diesel, i prefer the hilux but the Navara was a lot cheaper and does the same as the hilux does. I probably would have gone the Navara if i was buying new but i wasn't, so i didn't. either way, a top vehicle.

Ive had a Hilux SR5 AUTO Diesel on order for a customer since May 07.. Estimated Delivery was Oct, but apparently the factory got taken out in one of those earthquakes in Japan, estimated delivery date is now Jan 08, but nothings in concrete.
Expect to wait up to 12 months to get one depending on how hard you shop, id buy the ranger, 10 - 15 kay cheaper for the same spec car, and you can get one much quicker if your easy on colour. The Navaras are pretty good, but dont have resale of Toyota.

Dont see how a Hilux factory could be taken out in Japan since they are made in Thailand :

Ok cool,
Thanx for your responses. Well we wouldnt need the car till mid 08, so waiting isnt the issue. And they will keep it for ever, so resale isnt an issue either. Will sit down and discuss further with the bro and sis. I think ill take a look at the oter models mentioned as well. Cheers again. |

I would also strongly recommend a drive in the Ranger and Navara before settling with the Hilux. Only thing with the Ranger is some dealerships struggle to keep enough on the floor because they're selling so fast...

www.newhilux.net Thats my other home forum.
Have a TD Hilux which has power aplenty when in boost.... comes in at 1000rpm so not often out of boost. Love it to peices, no problems, carry good amount of weight in it. Only had trouble towing a horse float... jackass that hooked it up left the breaks on. Didn't get far... I have a 5 speed manual so can't comment on the auto. CrankR.

Anything i can help with brochures etc.
Can u think what towing does to that 2.5 in the Navara, We had people trade in a pathfinder cause it just couldn't tow 3t's with the 2.5 comfortable. I had a customer order a brand new SR5 T/D, they pick it up next week, but as you say waiting isn't a problem. I have no problem lighting it up in the hilux, You will have better resale then any other brand out there, no fact about it, though you said that doesn't matter either. Fuel consuption is rated at about 8.3 for man, bout litre more for auto. LSTG, I'd be abit upset. I'd prob demand your money back and go else where. edit: PM if any more questions. |

I have a Dec 05 build rego'd in Jan 06 3.0 turbo diesel 5 speed Navara. It hasn't missed a beat or had any warranty issues 30 thou k's on the clock now and 600k's HWY cruising to a tank of diesel maybe more as i fill up when she is on a 1/4 of a tank till empty.
I service it every 5000k and it's about $300 and it cost $40 grand drive away. Only bad thing about it is the turning circle quite big i reckon but i'm compairing it to the Phoon. The new model Navara looks the goods over the Hilux and if the engine and drive train is the same you can't go wrong. The service people are great and ring up the next day to see if you are happy with the car bloody good service. Seats are good for a long drive and it handles the road ok and very little HWY noise in the cabin. I have thrown some old man emu's shocks in it and changed the bushes on the springs to neolathane just to beef up the suspension as i do quite a bit of beach fishing We have towed a 20 foot boat for 7 hours up north and no drama's towing either. For a mid size 4WD it's very good money for value and i'm glad i bought it. The only thing i hate are the bloody Bridgestone tyres on it they are great in the dry but deadly in the wet no traction and the brakes lock up easily in the wet so i'm throwing some coopers on there and that will fix that problem. Being a diesel mechanic and having worked on more toyota's than i care to remember these Navara's beat them hands down.

We've got an SR Dual Cab 4x4 at work.
Pulled the factory steelies off and replaced them with wider sunraysia's/decent rubber. We had problems at another branch with the standard steel rims/tyres not handling a decent load. Tyres were simply not good enough. Spend the extra and get the factory alloys. Front end spends a hell of a lot of time on the bump stops. We were going to install a lift kit, but the Fleet Company wouldn't cover it. Had a lean to the passenger side (Buggered Rear Shockie) The Service Manager tried to blame the long range tank for the failure!!!! I thought these cars were designed to carry a load...The tank would be a drop in the ocean in reality! We had a Rodeo 4x4 Dual cab before the Hilux, and it went further/more places than the Hilux will ever go. Interior is fine. It's similar to driving a Prado if you ask me. Good power for a TD too. Cheers Darran

I bought a brand new 07 v6 auto dual cab sr5. What a machine. Very happy with it, first time owning a a hilux or this type of vehicle. And it definately has some grunt. Also its a 4 speed with o/d. Fuel economy is pretty good. I generally fill up with 95-98 bp, i get 600kms to tank easy with alot of city driving and pushing it. Ive had for 3 months, just clocked over 11000kms. Only issue, the box wouldnt engage first when you come to stop. After taking it to toyota, 2 hours later all fixed.

LSTG: Funny that they used that excuse. They're pulling your leg. The only vehicle affected by the Earthquakes was the 4 cylinder Rav4.

Hmmm thats weird considering the Navara has more power and torque than the hilux. : It also won ute 4x4 Australia mag's ute of the year last year, acceleration tests had the Hilux take 1.5 seconds longer to over take at highway speeds. Even the petrol Navara placed higher than the diesel Hilux. |

No, the Navara has 128kw and a bunch more torque with a smaller engine.

Must be a recent change for "07". Always was 128kw including in my "06" owners manual and magazines/website tests.
