Elfin are still going. They were at the Melbourne Motor Show with a couple of Chev V8 powered cars.
I was about to edit my post when my connection dropped out lol; but I was going to rewrite it to say how do they get 300kw from a 2.4L and still have it reliable with nice road manners. I mean F1 are powerful but I wouldnt want to use one of their engines everyday. But then I guess you wouldnt want to drive a Caterham everyday lol. More of a track day car.

The V8 isn't a Ford engine. I've got a suspiscion thats it an engine out of an A1GP car, 2.4 litres, very light weight and revs to 10,000rpm. Who else has an engine of that capacity?
Some models of Caterham have 2.3 litre Ford Duratec 4 cylinders. |

This is surprising to me.
Caterham got a mileage recently with a show car turbo version of the Cosworth 2.3 four with veiled hints of a production version. There was a 2600cc (?) V8 based on two Hayabusa top ends on a custom V8 block that was put in one of their wide body frames two or more years ago. I think that could be taken out to 3000cc with custom work. Small physical size, nice heads, high output and a bit more tractable than a bike engine. The A1GP V8’s (and other engines that are used in similar series – e.g. Caparo) have a fair bit left in them. They are run in one make series where they aren’t chasing the absolute last rev or every absolute packaging or weight advantage like say F1 engines. Having said that I don’t imagine they would be that cheap either.

Tom Walkinshaw recently bought Elfin. Not 100% sure of the details. From memory Mike Simcoe (guy who designed the Monaro) designed the Elfin Streamliner as well as the more 'naked' version for Elfin a few years ago. He also owns one.

I'm fairly sure that engine has R1 Yamaha heads and billet crankcase ???
If so that would be why the rpm and power output !!!
