Thumbs up Mid North Coast Drag Strip

The newly formed 4 Aces Drag Racing Club which is based in Kempsey, have been onto the local council for forming a drag strip at Kempsey Airport. They had a club meeting last night and going by the looks of it, Kempsey Shire Council are interested in the proposal :. This will still take some time as alot of other things have to be approved, and it has still yet to go through the chamber of commerce. But for everybody involved, this is some great news that in the future there will most likely a drag stip will be built at Kempsey. :

How close will i be. I know my wife brought this house for a reason. I reckon the Landy would get inside a Minute . Victoria has alot of 1/8th mile track which are fantastic and i hope with kempsey we will test and tune up here for a run or series in WSID. Well done to the 4 aces club.

P.S Would love to go on a Drag Bike :ticking:

lets hope it happens NSW has had a few 1/8 strips around the place Nowra had one at the navy base runway and Wellington out near Dubbo still has one on the runway as far as I know. Even Orange had an 1/8 on the worst piece of road you would ever see but some how they got that past (not running any more)

I grew up in Scotts Head, so I know how much the place needs this. Id even travel down to race on it when it opens.

Just thought anyone interested in seeing the drag strip go ahead should keep an eye out around Kempsey (not sure if it is elsewhere?) as there is a petition for people to sign who support the use of the airport for racing which will be used to lobby the kempsey Council.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, although I am not part of the drag club as yet so can't say yes to it. I am sure if your club was to contact them it would be suported. Maybe your club could write a letter of support on behalf of club members and forward it plus petition? I am sure they need all the support they can get.

Okay then sounds great, and if info is not hard for you to get as you have said, any chance of keepping this thread updated with any progress? or maybe a thread in the Drag Racing section so everyone on the forum can be kept updated on its progress as we all know it will be more than just kempsey / mid nth coast residents that are interested.

It is still stuck in council........it could still take a year or 2, trust me...i will be one of the first to know. My boss races his drag car at Willowbank, and you will see the car at our show and shine in March, as he is bringing it down and putting it on the dyno, he is one of the committee for the 4 Aces drag club. He always tells me the progress of this event. As soon as i know i will pass it on.

In regards to this I went to the meeting the council held a little while back relating to alternate use of the airport and if they should keep it open. The guys from the 4 aces stood up and proposed the drags and surprisingly there was not anyone in the there that said anything against it and this inlcuded some of the flying club oldies that seem to think rate payers should pay for their own airport. I am also lead to believe that the Sporting Car Club is trying to get use of the airport aswell maybe someone knows more about this. Either way they want rate payers to fund the airport by increasing rates, so I for one am only happy if I get to use it and I don't own a plane (like most) or they can shut it down, no point paying for something I can't use, that money would be better off fixin the roads.

you can use the airport. Unfortunately the club hasnt done the rite paper work with the council and that has put it back a long way. I have seen this been put up and shot down in other areas. If it gets up we all will pay for it thru the nose. It will be expensive for users and yeah i just hope it works. I am the closest to it : :

For those that are interested just got an email back from kempsey council regarding the airport and if you have not emailed the council outling your support, you should. email reply below;

I refer to your email of 17 February 2010 concerning the Kempsey Airport. Thank you for your interest.

Council staff are investigating the proposal from the Four Aces Racing Club. Recommendations will be provided back to Councillors for the final determination.

I appreciate your comments.

Hi everyone...

Four Aces Drag Club here!

Officially - no incorrect papers have been lodged with council - in fact no papers have been lodged as yet. I have had preliminary meetings with Council representatoves in relation to our Development Application for the airport... there is still work to be done! Not only is the DA required but a whole pile of supporting documentation, including an event management plan (currently under construction) an emergency management plan, site plan etc etc.. All going well the application package will be finished this week and will be lodged by Friday!

So stay tuned - looks like we may be racing in October sometime (not in 2 years time!!) if all goes well with the application! :

Check out our web site... www.fouracesdrags.com... and if anyone has some ideas, suggestions, feedback etc e-mail me! fadrc@bigpond.com

Make sure you all come to the Macleay Auto Spectacular! 18th July @ Kempsey Showgrounds... you can download the entry form from our web site... there are some really great trophies to win!! Enter now!!! - Dont forget the Dyno either... 3 trophies in that shootout!
Cheers

There was a bit in the Argus newspaper about this on friday just gone 13/08/10 it mentioned that the council was still looking at the D.A that four aces put in. But was mainly a write up with the opinion of a Bryan Morrow (from memory) who is associated with the off road buggy racing and a cams scrutineer saying he does not support it and that its "not the best location" maybe the highway between fredo and kempsey would be better? Its funny how someone from the off road racing club would shoot this down when only a few years ago they struggled to get community support to keep racing. Starting to wish I did not support them voicing my opinion with councilors to help get them the go ahead when this clown goes to the paper to shoot down racing at the airport for seemingly no reason.

What a bloody clown , needs to pull his head in and look at the past. Is it any wonder motor sport is going backwards on the mid north coast with people like this associated with it.

Just for the record I am not having a dig at the off road racing club just this one clown.

Anyone local that is interested in seeing this go ahead should look at todays (27/08/10) letters to the editor in the argus (unfortunatly not available online) Looks like a bit of a slinging match is about to take place between Bryan morrow and the supporters of the airport drag racing. If you feel strongly enough about it you can have your say at

http://www.macleayargus.com.au/content/writetous/

Bryans latest claim is the four aces should buy or lease land and build a drag strip on it like the hill climb club had to build their track out near crescent head in 1967. (which no longer exists) clearly he has no idea that land costs alot more now, i think he needs a dose of reality now its 2010 not 1967.
