Default 1004-110 Cam in EF

Hey Guys,

I've off loaded most of my turbo gear on Ebay and I'm in the process of getting my N/A mods organised. The plan is a cam, T5, PH4480's and some wheels eventually!

I just ordered a 1004-110 cam off Wade which should be here by the end of the week. I don't yet have extractors on the car, is it worth putting the cam in without them? I know it's not going to make all possible power, but are their any negative effects of putting it in?

I hopefully have a T5 conversion/3.45 LSD out of an EL XR6 organised at a good price, so that should help solve the cranky idle with the auto. I need to find an EF 5spd ECU, if anyone has one or wants to swap it with a 5spd EL XR6 ECU let me know!

Thanks
Daniel

are you on petrol or gas? you do realise the 1004@110 will most likely idle very bad and stall alot? you may as well put it in without extractors, it will still give you an increase in power

the cam will still go alright without the extractors.
walkinshaw pulled some great times with the 1004 110...
but yeah, idle will suck.. but it'll be alright once the manual goes in

Yeah I know it's gunna idle like a dog, but I'm not scared. lol!

I'll get a chip later down the track and the manual conversion should help a lot. I love the sound of a stupid cam, thats half the reason I got it. :P

I'm hoping I still see some sort of gain with out extractors, the head is ported to buggery so that may help a bit. I noticed when I put the head on that I lost a bit of low down power, but it gets itself out of trouble higher up. Putting the cam in is probably gunna kill low down even more, but the T5 and 3.45 should make up for that.

bargain for 900. Just get the flywheel machined, get a clutch, clutch cable and spigot bearing and you're set. I'm sure you know this though.

Good luck with it.

I thought it was a shit hot price! All the wreckers all called wanted $1200+ just for the conversion kit and a further $550+ for the diff!!

I have a cable here already from previous conversions

I'll get the flywheel machined and I am going to get a shit hot clutch through work from XClutch. We get stuff from them at a stupidly cheap price. All in all I should end up with a cam, T5 conversion and 3.45LSD for under $1500.

Got the cam in tonight! It idles like an absolute biatch and I love it!!

Judging by the seat-of-the-pants-omometer it's got a heap more power. The absolute best $122 I have ever spent. Sounds like an absolute animal as well.

I am getting extractors put on tomorrow, don't think I'll be able to afford or find 4480's so I might settle for a set of 4499's, but they have got to be better than nothing. I can't wait to get it breathing better.

To anyone who's thinking about getting a cam..........DO IT!! The 1004@110 idles like a mofo, but it's only stalled on me once in the driveway while I was fiddling with the idle speed.

T5 and diff are getting picked up next weekend. As sad as I was about having to ditch the turbo project, I'm pretty damn stoked about the way this thing is headed. At the moment it's beaten a VS SS 5spd and I still have the T5, diff and extractors to go!

Basically what walki said. Mine pulls really hard from about 3000rpm.

Got my extractors put on! Also got a 2.5in high flow cat. I am damn impressed with the gains I've made in the past 2 days!
