All-new Ford Mondeo revealed

MEET the most desirable Mondeo ever! Ford’s next-generation family favourite will bring new levels of style, luxury and efficiency to the market – and our exclusive images give a good idea of how it will look.

Following the latest Fiesta and imminent new Focus, the Mondeo will be a global car, with minor changes being made to suit individual markets around the world. It will also be built in a number of different countries, although design and engineering is taking place at Ford’s HQ in the US for the first time.

As our pictures show, the family resemblance to the new Focus is instantly apparent in the bold front, which features a much larger lower grille, swept-back headlights and pronounced ridges in the bonnet. At the rear, large chrome exhausts integrated into the bumper and a subtle bootlid spoiler hint at the Mondeo’s sporting potential. A chunky shoulder line with muscular wheelarches completes the purposeful appearance.

Inside will be Ford’s most luxurious interior ever, as the car attempts to move closer to upmarket rivals from Audi, BMW and Mercedes. The firm’s SYNC system allows drivers to control virtually any portable media device through steering wheel buttons or voice recognition technology.

In addition, the Mondeo will offer lane departure and blind spot warning systems, as well as a rear view camera. A clever Driver Alert set-up uses cameras to recognise when the owner is falling asleep at the wheel, and sounds a warning. Under the skin will be a modified version of the existing model’s front-wheel-drive platform. For the first time, the Mondeo will use a torque vectoring system, from the Focus. It will also get a new electric power-steering set-up and dynamic cornering control – all of which should boost driver involvement and improve refinement.

Power will come from Ford’s 1.6 and 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol turbo engines. In the current car, the latter produces 200bhp and returns 36mpg combined, while the 1.6 – found in the new C-MAX – will offer 150bhp and 180bhp outputs. Also available will be a range of 2.0 TDCi diesel models, with 112bhp, 137bhp or 163bhp.

LINK

I don't know how accurate this is but it ain't a bad effort to say the least.
The rear 3/4 rendering (see link) is shocking at best.

I disliked the Eumerican styling direction Ford's taking (at first) but I think some great looking cars are on their way!

I love it too. Until I clicked on the link and saw the back of it.

The front is awesome. The back is hideous.

What is it with modern designers doing an awesome job until they get to the rear of the car, its like they have run out of ideas or the coffee machine was broken.

Its not bad, but will blend in with the rest.

Looks good, from the front anyway. That rendering of the rear is just retarded.

Of course, this may not be representative of the end product; its just an artist's opinion.

True.

You can tell from looking at the glass house in the frontal pic that the artist put very little thought into the rear rendering simply because there's very little in common, styling wise, between the two.

It's a mix of several cars. Looks a little Aurion from the rear and Cruze from the front. I'm waiting till it comes out in metal before I decide if I like it or not.

Actually, it looks as if the artist has chopped a Taurus base image. Pretty sure the Toreass has those mirrors and doors.

Beautiful, from the front, anyway. The best thing is, Falcon will be taking cues from this in the future.

I'm really liking the new Ford styling direction. Beats 'New Edge' with a stick.

It looks like the same rear end as the American Focus.

Gotta say Mondo, I think from the front, it kills our Mondeo's in style, but from the side and rear, it's got nothing on the current shape. I also noticed it has the MB XR5 rims.

The comparasin pic is a good one. I think in the silver, the XR5 is a killer. I really am keen to see the new Mondeo and look at what kind of performance variant they plan to do. They have the technology sorted, just need to see how well it performs. I have no plans to sell my XR5. Unless it was for a white one and I'd need to keep my wheels

Can't see that this is really a Mondeo, there are so many other pics on the web of the official Ford release re the 2011 Mondeo. Looks similar to the 2010 unit with tweaks.

Hmm not bad, back is woeful but, lets hope and pray(llol) that they dont adopt a Taurus like behind.

I think this look is good on the mondeo, but looking at the similar design of the Focus i dont like it, looks out of proportion, not smooth enough.

I seem to remember reading a while ago somewhere that they were looking at doing a '4 door coupe' version of the next Mondeo as well as the normal sedan (think Merc CLS or Passat/Passat CC)...

Might start looking at a BMW 3 Series 320d if Ford dont deliver on the Mondeo.I will see at the motor show in October what plans Ford has for the Mondeo, the BMW has a 135Kw 380Nm diesel engine with a 6 speed ZF auto I prefer the Mondeo if the engine/auto were the same in each car!
