Default Power Steering Problem

Hi All,

Wondering if someone can help.

I started to get a whirring sound a few days ago when I steer. Since then, steering has become a bit heavy when turning. The whirring sound continues.

I checked the power steering fluid level and it is at the maximum.

Any ideas?

what does the oil look like is it black if so it needs changing, either that or the pump is on the way out by the sounds of it.

It's not uncommon for the power steering to make somewhat of a whirring noise when turning the steering wheel...particually if you are stationary at the time.

If it's gotten heavier and there is not 'sports steering mode' (not sure if that made it into the mondeo or not) then it sounds like the pump might be on its way out as fordmondeoman has mentioned.

Check out the UK Mondeo forum - now TalkFord.com. From memory it's a power steering pump problem and should be a warranty repair.

Default Internal Fault in Steering Reservoir

Thanks for all your inputs!

I had my car serviced at Ford this morning and NZ XR6 is correct in saying that this was under warranty.

The service advisor said that there was an internal fault in the steering reservoir. He added that he has seen a fair number with this problem.

Car is back in good shape so I am happy. But couldn't resist in having a look at the Focus MKII as it's price was not far off from an LX Fiesta (I am looking for a 2nd car).
