fuel gauge readings..

Just wondering if anyone else is suffering from dodge fuel readings? I had about 5L left put in 10L and the DTE and gauge didn't budge at all, checked the cluster diagnostics and it showed 6L buffered for 15km then slowly rose to 8L while the unbuffered fluctated between 0 and 25L Is this normal? Electrics suck in these cars!

yeah if i put in 2 - 15L my car takes about 5 hrs to recognise it and the stupid fairmont DTE doesnt register it at all... ever haha

I have read that it takes approx 15 minutes for a full sweep of the gauge (buffered) from empty to full. This is will ignition is in ON position when level on the sender is changed ... not sure if it different when vehicle is OFF and level is changed and then turned back on again ... It's been a while since I had the AU.

Have tested this with a sender out of a car as well.

When i fill mine up it changes straight away. That's filling up when off then switch it on.

My fuel light and DTE goes nuts and I'll still have 15L in the tank.

I had issues with dodgy senders going out of range (dash diagnostics reported the impedence reading being passed the tank sender range while driving) ... I'd watch the gauge drag slowly down ... and recover eventually.

I found a tech article that mentioned that it took 15 min of full sweep.

I had issues when the gauge would drop immediately to zero as well. And it would take ages to get back up to full while driving.

Just thought I'd mention that my S2 Fairmont registers any increases immediately.

The least I can recall topping up with was around $10, that was about 8 liters at the time, and the DTE and quantity worked as I expected it would.

I've never ever had a problem with my fuel indications and predictions, though pity I can't see most of it as the Climate Control screen has faded almost right away.
I'm just waiting for the daily temperatures to subside a little, so I can drive the car during the day without the aircon, whilst the panel is away at Autotronics getting repaired.

Mate no offence but with 10year old+ electrics in most au's your going to have issues my fuel sender is playing games at the moment ican't afford to fix it but I think you'll find it's a sender issue as it's a common problem on theese cars.

When my sender started playing up it would say dte 80km's but I ran out of petrol anyway

It didn't look too bad to replace the sender in an AU sedan ... my mechanic had a black AUI XR6 in with the same issue ... the fuel pump access was in the boot and not too bad to access it ... I think the entire assembly was replaced though.

The LPG models suffer from weirdo fuel sender issues more than the petrol models though. I know ... I have been through it all ... after replacing my senders a few times (2 tanks on the ute) over my 4-5 year ownership .... i got used to it in the end.
