Was following this Tezza near my place and the number plate caught my eye.
Obviously the owner beat FPV themselves to VicRoads and snagged this plate.

Maybe he had a BA GT or something, sold it but kept the plates?

3 letter number plates have been around since the state government began registering cars back in 1910ish I have seen a 1 letter plate on a T but I that was years ago. 1 of my cousins owned a 1926 chev tourer (wooden spoke wheels) with original 3 letter plates on it. Or you all talking about personalised plates?

I remember the days (he says, lifting himself out of his rocking chair ) before there was such a thing as personalised plates in Queensland, and two guys I worked on a farm with (this was 1982) had two XY Falcons...one a 302 ute, the other a 351 panel van. Their plates were, respectively, "HOT-302" and "HOT-351".
When asked how they managed to snaffle those particular plates, they said they had put in a "request" through the Main Roads (as it was back then) and when those combinations came up, they wanted them. No idea if it was a "done thing" or if it was a sly job with someone they knew that worked at the department, but they had them. Back then you also weren't allowed to sell or keep your plates after you deregistered a car...you had to hand them back in. Of course not everyone did...I have a plate hanging on the wall of my shed that I got off a mate which says "157-NUT"...or "One '57 Nut" for the Chev owners. There was also a big stink when the plates swapped from the old black and white to green and white here in Queensland, when the plates got to 000-OOO. They said it would be "handed out randomly" after suggestions of a raffle or auction, and amazingly some government minister just happened to get them when he registered his car...what a stunning coincidence... ...and somewhere, buried in the boxes of old crap I have from back in "the good old days", is a hastily-taken photo looking in the back of the old Bundaberg Police station, of a brand new bright yellow VH Commodore Highway Pursuit car that had been delivered that very day...with a licence plate with the letters "PIG" on it...you can't tell me someone at the dealership that did the rego on those cars wasn't having a laugh. It was swapped for different plates the next day... |

Hmm if I had that FPV plate I'd be torn between keeping it and having such a unique plate , or trying to sell it back to FPV for bucketloads lol

When I registered my plates the guy at the counter said I'd be lucky to get it available as ford and other makers together with main roads were going to stop people getting these sorts of plates aka fpv, fg xr (mine), fg gt, fg f6 and so on.. Although fg xr6 were taken I opted for just plain fg xr, better though because if I ever sell the car and move onto something I can sell them to anyone with a xr6 or xr8

imo plates that state the bleedin obvious like "FG XR" or "F6 FPV" etc. are akin to FORD or HOLDEN windscreen stickers |

Definately an advantage living in the ACT. Not too many people to fight with over the good "unique" number plates. I scored "SHAKER" for my XY GT, and "EBGT" for my...........................well, I'll let you guess what that's on!!

Used to see a guy with an EL with plates MFP-000 . I always thought he was a Mad Max fan (MFP = Main Force Police or Patrol , cant remember lol ) Anyway
One day he started at my workplace and I asked him bout the plates and was he a Mad Max fan? Turns out MFP was his initials and he just liked the idea of triple 0 as the numbers. He hadn't even seen Mad Max !! lol

FPV on a Territory. Reminds me of the BAFPV plates on a stock XR6 that floats around.

A few years ago a week or so before the release of the new FG I scored off the PPQ web site "FG FPV" - paid the 2.2k on the CC got the conformation email saying congrats on your purchase and you are supporting the QLD road blah blah blah
Then about a week later I received in the mail a refund chq and a letter stating the plates have been withdrawn from sale - no explanation no sorry just a letter that. The plated with wording FG FPV have been reviewed and have been withdrawn from sale I smell a rat between the Main Roads and a FORD dealer in Brissy as I think I have seen these on a dealer car

The holy grail of plates is on a Gloss Black 32 Roadster, where it should be.
It's registered ... FORD

My rego on my second F6 was "FPV F6". I sold the plates to a person in the Gold Coast who put them on a "replica". I think the plates were worth half the price of the car .
