This here UK website which is dedicated but not limited to Australian Fords... most specifically... the Fairlanes and Falcons that used to find their way there.
Filled with gems... and pictures, catalogues of Ford's not native to the UK with pounds pricing. Some of you are probably members... but what a great find this site is. http://www.aus-ford-uk.co.uk/html/so...ackground.html

Love the advert of a rear view of an XY (?) wagon with 'We offer the wide open spaces of Australia"...how much mileage could Ford Australia get out of an advert like that if they 1: still bothered building a Falcon wagon, and 2: grew a pair and got into the export market with a unique product like we make here?
I also notice links to an Australian Ford register in the UK, and one of the cars is a TD Cortina with the 4.1. When we had our TE Cortina 4.1, I recall reading older British magazines about Cortinas and the 1.3 and 1.6 Kent engines were the normal ones, and if you were really lucky and had a Ghia, you might get "the big engine", the two liter OHC motor. Here the "little engine" was the two liter and only Australians were mad enough to see a four cylinder pommy car, look at the Ford Falcon with a huge cast itnr 4.1 liter six in it, and think "Hmmm...." |

Ahhhh .... the TE Cortina 4.1 was a great car with the 4-sp manual behind it.
God it would have been a dog with the 4-cyl in it.

My dad had a lime green 200ci TD wagon, with black vinyl seats and metal seatbelt buckles that would give you third degree burns on a hot day. Whenever the sun came out the towels would go straight onto the seats, or your skin would end up melting off. |

I wish i could find a photo of the old X-Pac 4.1 we had.
Silver with orange/red twin striping, bumper overriders, factory fog/driving lights, grey vinyl roof. At least it was a cloth interior and had the 4-spoke sports black steering wheel. They were a sloppy ride ... but a good country road cruiser ... being manual though you could at least "drive it" out of a corner. God it went well for what it was back in the day though. I remember the old vinyl seats ... my Dad has a Datsun 1200 as a work hack ... and in summer those metal seat belt buckles were scalding. Ahhhh Memories.

Such a shame .... I have tried hunting down our old car ... but no luck.
I am having a hard time looking for photos from that era as well. I'd love to get one again and restore/lightly modify ... but finding a decent base at all is hard enough in the configuration that I want as well.

Here's our old TE with 5 of us in it! There's a 15HP Evinrude somewhere in that lot to, just to add a bit more weight.

The wagon is a TC and the above is a TD.

all good, have had a heap of cortinas myself. 2 TC, 1 TD, 1 TE. and as stated the 6 was a good motor in the cortina, the 4 speed 2 litre wasn't that bad either.

TD's had the square headlights didn't they?
My Mum used to have a Brown TC XL with Bone Vinyl Roof, which was an auto 2.0L It was a great car and served both her and myself well. Whenever I as getting some work done to one of my big V8 Falcons/Fairmonts, I'd hijack the cortie to get to to & from work, and to hoon around. And add me as another to have the aus-ford-uk site as a favorite for a long time. Lots of useful pic's and info there! Edit: Still think a real clean manual TC/TD XLE with a 250 would be a great car to have. Then whack a 2V head on it for that bit more.

From back when we owned two Cortinas...
A 1970 Cortina GT, all original, and a 1979 TE Cortina Rally Pack, worked 4.1 iron head x-flow and a four speed. |

I had a 2L Pinto with the 3-speed auto box. It was the Mk5 or the '80 model. Went very, very well, but rusted like you would not believe.
Still... with a Weber from a 3-litre Capri and a Kent cam it went very well! Anyway, there's more aussie Falcons that you'd think in the UK. Did spot an AU V8 supercar racer on eBay.co.uk recently.
