I have just replaced my radiator again, for the 3rd time in 11 years!
This time it blew the transmission oil exchanger section. Been reading about electrolosys due to stray electrical current. As the radiator is completely insulated from chassis earth, I thought this to be a valid point. The battery, engine and chassis earths are good. So I have fitted an earth strap to the radiator frame. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Regards, Terry |

Just to add, yes, I've read the "useful Thread" on this subject, but I do not agree that earthing the radiator will increase the stray current ... why would it?

What have you been replacing the older rads with??? Stock items again???
I'd suggest going for something aftermarket with a copper core at the very least.

Thanks for the reply Mechan1k, yeah mate, the second one was a copper core job. It lasted 5 1/2 years.

Cheap copper or alloy radiators tend to have cheap and light auto coolers. I swear by my Heavy Duty Copper Adrad unit.
Electrolysis can occur not just from stray current, but also by ammonia build up and static charge being created from some conditioners.
