Default AU Hard to start and slight misfire at idle

My AU ute (6cyl) is hard to start.
I thought it was the fuel pump, so replaced that and the filter and it is better but still a little hard to start and some times coughs for a few seconds before starts idling properly.

If I am sitting at a set of lights, it will also have a misfire every say 10 or 20 seconds, it's wierd.

Any thoughts???

inlet manifold leak is the most likely culprit

Pull it off, replace the gasket and refit?

there are 3 gaskets that could leak the one on the block the on joining the 2 halfs ( lees likely) and the throtle body gasket . with the engine running spray some soapy water around from a trigger bottle and you will hear a change in engine note when to finds the leak

You could always check the main bolts from the inlet manifold to head are tight . I always re torque them every oil change .

How old are the spark plugs as well ?

IM guessing Gasket leak & Plugs

Check for quality of spark ie: spark plugs & leads. Maybe coilpack, check both primary and secondary resistance values.

Try this....

Before you start the car switch it to reds then off, let the fuel pump run its prime cycle before switching off the reds. Now do this five times and it should start first time if its dropping rail pressure.

The stumble after starting would be the lack of pressure at the injector rail and the lack of fuel, fuel pump trying to catch up.

That miss could also be a faulty injector and not giving off a correct spray pattern at idle causing an incorrect or poor burn pattern.

just a thought, I also own an AU so trouble shooting is a very regular occurrence . Thank you Mazda 121 metro
