I'm in the market for a reasonably price soft roader suv to replace the wifes magna. She has taken a liking to a 4 year old Jeep Patriot. 2lt turbo diesel 6 speed manual. After checking a few reviews we or she is still interested. Im wondering if anyone knows much of these cars or anyone that may actually own one. After driving one , I must admit i was impressed with the amount of torque the thing had . We are looking at a diesel for that reason and the economy. Any educated opinions appreciated as I had totally disregarded the Patriot untill now.
Thanks in advance. |

I had one for 2 years but it was petrol and cvt.
Petrol was gutless and cvt was hopeless. But everything else about it was good. Never had any problems with it. Diesel manual would be the pick definitely |

Car is based on some variation of Lancer/Outlander platform with VW 2l TDI engine - engines are proven in service reliable and torquey - this one sort of slipped under the radar for most small suv buyers - should be a bargain buy.

Chrysler did not have a diesel to suit euro market (same diesel also delivered to australia) so they 've sourced VW 2 l tdi .
Similarly in current Cherokee they use VM 3l Tdi , not unusual practise to share engines and platforms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Patriot |

Well there you go! Thanks for that.
Being based off the Mitsubishi GS platform, it should be a good car. Lancer/ASX/Outlander are all a decent steer and fairly robust and well made. Having said that, looking at the 2008 Jeep Patriot's, they seem to be about $20k or so. You can pick up a similar year Mitsubishi Outlander VRX with the 3L V6 for the same sort of money. It will be a much better built and more reliable car. Just my opinion and something to think about. Last edited by Nic85; 25-02-2012 at 10:01 AM. |

It's also the reason why Chrysler/Dodge/Fiat are now stopping some cars and looking at going more towards Fiat designs
and why Fiat no longer buys GM V6 engines for its cars, they now look to Chrysler as their V6 engine supplier. |

Jeep parts are expensive from my experience. Perhaps worth doing a little research...

Fairly cheap, smooth engine, drives ok. Did my DTEC in one and it was impressive for a Hyundai Soft-roader. |

Have a look on this forum too mate, lots of Jeep info there. I joined up and did a lot of reading before buying my Cherokee.
